Premier League TV money sharing Formula

At the world football level, the EPL has the highest revenue share today and the fourth-highest of any professional sports league globally.

The league has some of the wealthiest football clubs in the world, including Manchester United, Manchester City, Chelsea, Arsenal, Tottenham Hotspur, etc.

This high revenue resulted from booming television rights over the last few years.

The league’s billions are accrued from television rights sold to top companies, including Sky Sports, BT Sports, etc.

Clubs enjoyed broadcasting and merit payments available for the EPL teams, with over £2.5 billion of central funds and prize money.

About half of the money generated is divided equally between the participating teams. One-quarter of the money is shared amongst the clubs based on final league standings at the end of the season.

The winners receive the highest revenue share, far better than the bottom-placed club. The other income from overseas is divided equally.

Television broadcast rights have been behind the rise of the league’s revenue over the years. In a bid to prioritise an equal sharing formula and further boost competition, the league sells its TV rights on a collective basis.

This makes it easier for smaller clubs to earn vast amounts of money, although it is usually based on final league standings each season.

The Premier League TV rights are divided into two parts. The domestic TV rights and the overseas TV rights.

The English Premier League average sides would benefit more from finishing even within the middle table.

As per the distribution pool, clubs within the average position at the end of the season receive at least £150-80 million pounds. This revenue shares the total amount of money shared among the 20 participating clubs in the division during the season.

At least smaller sides would be able to make some reasonable expenses in terms of player buys, payroll, and club-level other expenditures.

The level of football and competition has been the major driver in the success recorded by the league over the years.

Unlike other major soccer leagues, the competition in the EPL is far more robust. Smaller teams are known for causing upsets whenever they take on big sides.

The Premier League operates as an independent enterprise solely managing itself since its breakaway in the early 90s from the Football League.

EPL title odds 2024/2025

1. Manchester City

Manchester City are the defending champions of the EPL after another remarkable season amid a slow start.

The Cityzens enjoyed success in the league; however, it could not be replicated at the continental level.

With a formidable squad, Man City expects to lead the charge as the new season comes into play. The odds of Manchester City claiming a stake in the title are high.

2. Liverpool

Liverpool won the 2019/2020 EPL title and has maintained its presence as one of the most consistent teams in the division.

The Reds are in pole position this season for the league title even as Arne Slot continues to make a statement in his first season at the club.

3. Newcastle United

Newcastle United is another EPL team that has always finished in the mid-table. However, this trend has changed following the takeover by PIF and the Reuben brothers.

The Magpies have continued to flourish in the league and are one of the top contenders for the title.

4. Aston Villa FC

Under Unai Emery, Aston Villa has become one of the most competitive teams in the Premier League and could be seen as one of the title contenders.

Villa finished strongly and qualified for the UEFA Champions League.

5. Nottingham Forest FC

Without a doubt, Nottingham Forest are one of the title contenders this season. The club has shown to be consistent and competitive in the league.

6. Manchester United

Manchester United hasn't been at their best lately and aren't one of the best in the last few seasons in the top flight. But historically, performance places them at high odds.

7. Chelsea

Chelsea has been one of the busiest teams in the Premier League in the last few seasons in the transfer market. However, they have achieved minimal results.

The appointment of Enzo Maresca appears to have brought a significant difference to the team, and a lot is expected from the team in the season ahead.

8. Tottenham Hotspur

Tottenham Hotspur are one of the most consistent EPL teams in European football. Although the club has been inconsistent, they are tipped to finish strongly.
