Personal life
Derek John McInnes was born on 5th July 1971 in Paisley, in the central Lowlands of Scotland.
He began his football career as a teenager in 1988 at Greenock Morton, where he grew up to play professionally and earned over 259 appearances throughout his stay at the club, winning the Scottish Second Division 1994–95.
He left for Scottish football giants Rangers FC and spent almost five seasons at the club, helping the club to lift the Scottish Premier Division in 1996–97 and the Scottish Cup in 1998–99.
He left Rangers for English side West Bromwich Albion in the year 2000. There, he captained the side to Premier League promotion.

McInnes's next destination was Dundee United in 2003, where he yet again became the team captain. He later went on to play for Millwall FC and St Johnstone before heading for football management.
Managerial career
St Johnstone FC
Following the decision to retire from active football, he was appointed the new manager of the team following the departure of the then head coach.
His new role was successful as he led the club to secure promotion to the Scottish Premier League. His performance earned him recognition from teams across the United Kingdom.
Bristol City
After a bright start to his new career at St Johnstone, he agreed to join Bristol City in 2011. He was successful with his first task of securing EFL Championship status as the team initially struggled to maintain their league status.
However, thereafter, it was not the best of results for him, leading to his departure from the club.

Aberdeen
