Will Frenkie de Jong renew his contract with Barcelona? Here’s the condition on the table for possible extension
Frenkie de Jong was one of the few players said to have refused to lower their salaries when Barcelona struggled financially. The Dutchman was said to have rejected a wage cut despite demands by the club.
The Sun reported in October the Dutchman was hitting back at critics in what he described as lies regarding his decision to lower his wage at the Catalan club.
“There have been many lies and falsehoods spread about my salary”. Says Frenkie, as cited by The Sun.
“In each of the first three years I played here, I cut my salary. Eventually the money comes back, and it comes on top of my normal salary, so it looks bigger.
“I think a lot of people don’t understand this, but the figures the media are spreading are false.”
The option Barcelona has left on the table about Frenkie de Jong staying at the club
The report from Fichajes revealed Barcelona would be willing to extend Frenkie de Jong’s contract at the club if he’s ready to lower his salary. The 25-year-old earns over 22 million euros, and the Catalan club wants half of it instead.
Many European clubs, including Manchester United and Chelsea, were linked with the Dutchman in the past. But Barcelona are reluctant to let him leave.
Currently, Frenkie de Jong is one of the key players in the Xavi Hernandez setup this season.
