The gesture by the German men’s football team during the game against Japan has continued to generate a global reaction, forcing FIFA to react to it.
German players, during their photo shoot on the pitch, had their hands to their mouths as a gesture for human rights.
Will FIFA punish Germany for the gesture against Japan?
According to Sport1, the Disciplinary Committee had discussed the gesture by German players would have no consequences, even though it was stated there would be consequences for teams that go against FIFA’s orders at the tournament.
“With our captain’s armband, we wanted to set an example for values that we live in the national team: diversity and mutual respect,” said the German Football Association (DFB) on Twitter: “To be loud together with other nations. It’s not about a political message: Human rights are non -negotiable.” Says the German Football Association on Twitter as cited by Sport1.

Although FIFA had stated before the commencement of the tournament it would sanction teams that wear the colour armband, and the German team may not be punished for the gesture in the game against Japan.

For the Germans, they lost the game to Japan (1-2), becoming the second biggest team to lose in the tournament after Argentina’s shock loss to Saudi Arabia on Tuesday afternoon.
