Inter Milan won the Italian Super Cup at the expense of AC Milan to lift their first trophy of the campaign. The Milan-based club successfully eliminated Parma in the round of 16 in an intense game at the Stadio Giuseppe Meazza.

Visitors Atalanta edged past Spezia in a seven-goal thriller to advance to the quarter-finals. The Black and Blues recorded five whole whereas the visitors got two in the first half.
