What to expect from Liverpool this season?
Chelsea was stocking up on players, and while Todd Boley was (again) going wild on the transfer market, Jurgen Klopp went back to the “garage” and repaired the red machine, so before Sunday’s derby at Stamford Bridge, in the initial stage of the Premier League, it reminds of Liverpool from three years ago when they won the title. It would be pretentious to state that he could take the throne before the race even begins, but he seems ready.
It was also seen during the final check before the start of the season, against Darmstadt (3:1). Although the new Bundesliga team is not strong enough to measure the quality of the English giant, the impression is that the fans of the six-time European champion will have plenty of reasons to be satisfied.
If nothing else, at least they will enjoy efficient football because Liverpool finished the preparatory period by scoring 18 goals in five matches.
Two matches were against the German second division teams (Karlsruhe 2:4, Greuther Furth 4:4), one against the team that returned to the elite from Bundesliga 2 after six years (Darmstadt), one against Leicester, who moved to the Championship (4:0), the most serious one with Bayern was marked by the only defeat this summer (3:4). Again, such a number of scored goals is Klopp’s handwriting and a note to the competition that they will at least be more serious than last year and get a place in the Champions League. Maybe even threaten Manchester City’s reign.
In addition to the results in the friendly matches, the fans of the English team can be especially pleased with the games of the newcomers: Alexis McAlister “sprinted” in the middle of the field, distributed quality passes, appeared from the second plan and acted like a footballer who has been in Klopp’s system for years, and Dominik Szoboszlai, also showed great skills he just wasn’t lucky enough to hit the net.
It seems that the “Reds” are ready and hungry for success after last season’s disappointment and the whole team looks compete we will see how the saga with Caicedo from Brighton will end, then once Klopp gets the full list of players, he can focus on tactics and matches only.
