Biggest loss in Premier League – Top 5 heaviest defeats
The Premier League is known to be one of the high goalscoring leagues in Europe, and since its establishment, we’ve seen some of the biggest defeats. But which team has suffered the heaviest loss in history? Interesting Football brings to you some of the Premier League’s biggest losses.
5. Manchester City – Watford 8:0 (2019)
This is one of four 8:0 wins, but so impressive that it could have finished with more goals. This is the first time on the Premier League all-time biggest wins list that City is on the positive side.
They took the lead after 52 seconds, and after 18 minutes, it was 5-0 with goals from David Silva, Sergio Aguero, Riyad Mahrez, Bernardo Silva, and Nicolas Otamendi. Fortunately for poor Watford, the home side stopped a little, but Bernardo finished with a hat-trick, and Kevin De Bruyne joined the scorers until the end.

With this result, Chelsea won against Wigan in 2010 and against Aston Villa in 2012, while Newcastle was better than Sheffield Wednesday in 1999.
4. Tottenham Hotspur – Wigan Athletic 9:1 (2009)
Imagine it was only 1:0 in favour of the Spurs at halftime. Even 42 minutes passed between Peter Crouch’s goal and Jermain Defoe’s first of five. Aaron Lennon, David Bentley, and Niko Krajncar were also among the scorers.
This was only the second time someone in the PL has scored nine goals and only the 3rd time a player has scored 5 in a game. Wigan again finished six points clear of the danger zone that season.
3. Manchester United – Ipswich Town 9:0 (1995)
This is one of the most famous victories ever and a record that has not been achieved for so long. Still, few people know that that season at Portman Road, Ipswich beat Manchester United 3:2. Surely Fergi would have preferred it if he had won 1:0 twice and taken six points than this, which cost him the title in the end. Ipswich went out comfortably, and it was one of just seven wins for them.
Andy Cole scored a record five goals, Mark Hughes scored two, and Roy Keane and Paul Ince one each. This was Manchester United’s biggest win in 103 years.

Ben Chilwell scored in the 10th minute, and Ryan Bertrand was sent off after watching the VAR. Ayoze Perez scored a hat-trick, Jury Tielemans, James Maddison, and Jamie Vardy’s hat-trick made nine.
The Saints surprisingly kept Ralph Hasenhuttl as their manager and avoided relegation at the end of that season.
1. Manchester United – Southampton 9:0 (2021)
When Leicester City reached their record, Manchester United decided to repeat theirs. Unfortunately for Southampton, they are once again on the inglorious end. It was an early red card again, this time even earlier, and in the end, another one of their footballers was sent off.
In addition to his own goal, Bednarek received a penalty and one of the red cards, making it hard for his team as hard as he could.
