West Ham sign former Arsenal defender Konstantinos Mavropanos
West Ham United and Stuttgart have agreed to a €25 million deal for central defender Konstantinos Mavropanos. The center defender will cost roughly €25 million plus add-ons [£17.1 million], according to reports.
David Moyes needed a new defender in his team, and after being inactive in the transfer window, they have come to life with an array of new arrivals.
It appears to be a good deal for a defender who will shortly enter the prime of his career. West Ham wanted to bring reinforcements to cover the Europa League campaign this season.
Edson Alvarez and James Ward-Prowse have already arrived, so the focus was on bringing in a new defender and possibly a striker.
Harry Maguire and West Ham had a deal in place, but after struggling to persuade the England star, West Ham eventually lost interest.
The Greek defender joined the Gunners in 2018. Mavropanos joined Stuttgart permanently from Arsenal last summer when the club exercised his option-to-buy clause after three successive loan stints in Germany.
Konstantinos Mavropanos has established himself as a highly regarded defender in the Bundesliga and is now a regular call-up for the Greek National Team.
Arsenal has a 10% sell-on clause for Mavropanos, which means the club will profit from the player’s move to West Ham United.
Mvropanos will have his medicals with West Ham in 24-48 hours.
