The chairman of the most successful club in the country, Felix anyansi agwu has promised Nigerians Enyimba FC qualification for the group stage of the 2020/2021 CAF Champions League despite an initial 3-0 loss in the first leg.

The Aba elephants lost scandalously in the first leg in Omdurman against Al-Merreikh, which appears to be the tightest rope for the club to overturn.

However, the club chairman is optimistic of a positive result that would see the club in the group stage of the competition.

“We are capable of overturning the result in as much as the margin was huge. It’s not yet over, things can happen in Football. We want the fans to believe in us and want to assure our fans that it’s not yet over and nobody should give up yet.” said the club chairman as per

Enyimba FC is two time CAF Champions League winners in 2003 and 2004, becoming the only Nigerian club to win the competition.

Coming from the 1-0 win over Abia Warriors in the Abia Derby, the elephants are upbeat of a favourable result at home.

The team started well in the competition in the first round, defeating Rahimo on the road by a lone goal before finishing with a draw to seal qualification for the second round.

The first leg in Omdurman which could have served as the key to the group stage was easily lost despite huge promises on the side of players and the manager.

Captain of the side Austin Oladapo will sit out due to an injury which also kept him out of the first leg in Omdurman.

Enyimba’s pedigree in the competition, the fans of the club expects nothing less than a qualification to the next round after losing scandalously in the first leg away.


The club still has more to play for in the CAF Confederations Cup if they eventually miss qualification.
