Returning from a narrow defeat to Colombia, Venezuela will look to get their first win of the qualifying series when they host Paraguay at Estadio Monumental de Maturín.

Venezuela missed out on the previous edition in Qatar after finishing bottom of the qualifying series with just 10 points. The country has never qualified for the FIFA World Cup since its inception, and its first attempt was in 1958.

Paraguay were held to a goalless draw by a resilient Peru dominating the entire duration of the game. Newcastle United forward Miguel Almiron had an outstanding game but fired blank.
