This season, it appears Julian Nagelsmann have assigned a new role for Tyler Adams in centre-back, the United States soccer star who plays originally as a midfielder for two consecutive games.
The 21-year old American started his new centre-back role during the DFB POKAL cup game against Leipzig. Now against Mainz in the league, he takes the position again.
Nagelsmann could be experimenting new ways with his side since he knows the squad dept is not up to his expectations.
Well, for Adams new position, this could be that the manager sees more balance in the midfield than in the defence. Amadou Haidara and Kevin Kampl seem to be better off in the middle.
Against Nürnberg in the cup game, Adams was a little bit shaky, but in the end, his performance was at it’s best.
The low squad debt could be behind the new change for Adams and the United States soccer players appear to be doing well.
The manager has more options in all departments. The only drawback is in the attack since the club hasn’t been able to find a suitable replacement for Timo Werner and Patrik Schick.
Adams could still become a better player even at centre-back. The season is still young and more changes could still be made.
