Tottenham bolster defence and attack with Van de Ven and Veliz signings
Tottenham has signed Dutch Under-21 defender Micky van de Ven and Argentina Under-20 attacker Alejo Veliz.
Van de Ven, 22, was acquired by Spurs from Wolfsburg for an initial fee of 40 million euros (£34 million), which may increase to 50 million euros (£43 million) with add-ons.
Veliz, 19, has transferred from Rosario Central to the London club for a believed £13 million cost, subject to a work permit. Both players have agreements in place with Tottenham for six years.
Van de Ven led the Netherlands Under-21 team at the European Championship this summer. The defender has made 41 appearances for Wolfsburg (whom he joined in 2021) and 11 appearances for the Netherlands U21 team.
He played left-back in six of his 41 total games last season despite being primarily a left-sided center-back.
Veliz joined Rosario Central in 2019 and debuted for the first team in July of the following year. He has played 62 times in all competitions for the Argentine Primera Division team, scoring 19 goals.
Veliz played in the South American Under-20 Championship and the Under-20 World Cup in 2023, earning nine caps for Argentina at the U20 level and scoring three goals. Whether he is, a long-term replacement for Harry Kane is still up in the air.
The pair join the five permanent signings made this window: James Maddison, Pedro Porro, Guglielmo Vicario, Manor Solomon, and Ashley Phillips. In their first Premier League match of this season on Sunday, Spurs travel to Brentford.
