Top 5 defenders: alternatives to replace David Alaba at Bayern Munich

David Alaba

the contract extension talks between Bayern Munich and David Alaba appears to have hit the rock at this time and the Bavarians are already thinking of internal alternatives for the Austrian defender.

Alaba has been a very good servant in the defense for the Bavarians. The Austrian defender had been the main stalwart in defense for Munich alongside Jerome Boateng before even the recent arrival of Alphonso Davies and Lucas Hernandez.

For Hernandez, he had already been positioned as the heir apparent to the throne held up by Alaba.

As a result of disappointment already received by the top hierarchy at Bayern Munich, they’ve already set sights on four players that would easily serve replacement for the Austrian who’s already generating interest from England and Spain.

4 defenders that will replace David Alaba internationally at Bayern Munich if he leaves

1. Niklas Sule

Niklas Sule has been outstanding so far. The German international helped Bayern Munich to the treble last season even though he also had his fair share of injuries which kept him on the sidelines for a while.

The left-footed defender is already an important member of coach Hansi Flick first team.

2. Lucas Hernandez

The Frenchman was signed from Atletico Madrid, costing the Bavarians over 80 million euros. Although the French have found it difficult to thrive in Bavaria as a result of some minor injuries.

3. Alphonso Davies

At this point, you cannot take anything away from the Canadian knowing how brilliant he was throughout last season. His brilliance was seen during Bayern Munich humiliation of Barcelona in the UEFA Champions League semi-final where he took the ball off Nelson Semedo to send the Bavarians upfront.

4. Benjamin Pavard

One of those skilled defenders in the camp of Bayern Munich throughout the club’s Champions League campaign last season.

5. Tanguy Nianzou

The player signed from French Ligue 1championss Paris Saint Germain was dubbed as the best in Europe by club sporting director Hasan Salihamidzic. Since he hasn’t featured majorly for the first team, now is the right time to do so.
