The 2023 summer transfer window came with a lot of surprise moves, especially to Saudi Arabia, where some of the biggest European stars whose contract was due to expire opted to move instead of exercising the option of extending their contract.

The Spanish La Liga is a perfect example where some of the biggest names left for other clubs. One such was Karim Benzema, who left Real Madrid for Al Ittihad in the Saudi Pro League.

The Frenchman was rumoured to be nearing a contract extension with Los Blancos but opted to move elsewhere.

Although Toni Kroos and Luka Modric extended their respective contracts, they’re expected to be on the move as Real Madrid went on to strengthen its midfield.

The summer transfer window of 2024 would see a massive exodus of players whose contracts will expire. Here’s a list of the top 11 players as per fichajes.com

1. Yannick Carrasco

Atletico Madrid star Yannick Carrasco has been constantly linked with a move out of the club due to the expiration of his contract. The Belgian has been one of the long-standing players at the Wanda Metropolitano.

2. Andriy Lunin

Even though he was said to be the future of Real Madrid’s goalkeeping position, the Ukrainian international has not signed a contract extension with the club as of writing.

Lunin seeks a more significant role in the first team as he’s under the shadow of Thibaut Courtois, who remains the number one goalie.

3. Mario Hermoso

Hermoso is one of the biggest names expected to leave Atletico Madrid in the summer of 2024. Although there could be an extension, there’s no indication of such information.

4. Toni Kroos

A lot of La Liga and Champions League titles make Toni Kroos one of the modern legends of Real Madrid. The German football contract with the club ends in the summer of 2024.

5. Luka Modric

Ranked as one of the greatest midfielders of all time, Luka Modrić has given it throughout his time at Real Madrid. After exercising the option to remain for one more year, it could be time to say goodbye, as his contract ends in 2024.

6. Koke

Long-standing Atletico Madrid star Koke ends his contract in 2024. The Spaniard could depart the club with no signs of an extension in sight.

7. Lucas Vazquez

Perhaps one of the most loyal players in Real Madrid, Lucas Vazquez’s contract at the club ends next summer.

8. Iker Muniain

Athletic Club winger Iker Muniain could depart next summer when his contract expires.

9. Nico Williams

Nico Williams is one of the fastest-rising youngsters in the Spanish La Liga. The forward ends his contract in the summer of 2024. There are rumours surrounding his future.

10. Alejandro Balde

Gradually becoming one of the mainstays at Camp Nou, Alejandro Balde’s contract at Barcelona ends next summer.

The youngster has been an integral part of Xavi Hernandez’s team.

11. Youssef En-Nesyri

Two Europa League with Sevilla, Youssef En-Nesyri has been one of the most outstanding players at Sevilla—however, the contract with the Moroccan international ends next summer.
