1. Cristiano Ronaldo – £105.30m
After a remarkable success in Spain with Real Madrid, Cristiano Ronaldo headed for the exit door following a hot pursuit by Juventus. The Italian giants paid £105.30m to make him Real Madrid’s most expensive player to be sold by the club.
The Portuguese had shown to be one of the most reliable forwards on the European football scene, which makes him a head target by top teams. Although most Madridistas never liked the idea of the exit, it was yet another opportunity to win more trophies for himself.
Ronaldo’s availability and his choice to move to Juventus came as a surprise to many. The Portuguese remain a significant portion of Real Madrid’s history in the club’s modern era.
2. Angel Di Maria – (£67.50m to Manchester United)
Yet another Madridista leaving the Santiago Bernabéu, Angel Di Maria, joined Premier League giants Manchester United for £67.50m.
He’d already known himself in the Madridista community worldwide to be a valuable asset. The Argentine won the Spanish La Liga with Real Madrid in his second season with the club.
Maria’s most explosive year at Real Madrid was the 2013–14 season, where he won the Copa del Rey, the UEFA Champions League and the UEFA Super Cup.
Real Madrid signed Angel Di Maria from Portuguese football giants SL Benfica for a whopping €25 million. He helped the club to the Portuguese league title to end a five-year wait.
3. Casemiro – (£63.59m to Manchester United)
The end of an era and the beginning of a new era in English football with the most successful team in the land, Casemiro joined Manchester United for £63.59m to become the second most Real Madrid player sold to the English Premier League giants.
Casemiro is one of the Galácticos at Real Madrid. He joined Los Blancos for €6 million from São Paulo in 2013.
Ahead of the commencement of the 2021/22 second, head coach Carlo Ancelotti had described the midfield trio of Casemiro, Toni Kroos and Luka Modrić to be the ‘Bermuda Triangle.
In total, Casemiro won eight trophies at Real Madrid, including five UEFA Champions League titles that broke the competition’s record of most consecutive titles (three) by a club in its current format.
4. Alvaro Morata – (£59.40m to Chelsea)
In his peak times, Real Madrid inked over £59.40m in the sale of Alvaro Morata to Premier League side Chelsea. He graduated from the Real Madrid Castilla Club, the famous youth team of the Los Blancos.
The Spanish footballer had a successful career at Real Madrid, winning the two Champions League, La Liga and Copa del Rey titles, respectively.
5. Mesut Özil – (£42.30m to Arsenal)
Mesut Özil was arguably one of e the biggest names in Spanish football after making his mark with Real Madrid, which had attracted Arsenal to splash a whopping £42.30m for his services.
Although not as big as Ronaldo, Di Maria and Morata, Mesut Özil one La Liga and Copa del Rey titles.
Mesut Özil signed for the Los Blancos in 2010 for €15 million from Bundesliga side Werder Bremen. He moved on from being a Galáctico to be ranked among the Premier League assist kings of all time with Arsenal.
