The 3 Atletico Madrid transfer targets in the summer transfer window 2023
Atletico Madrid are accelerating their plans for a comeback in the 2023/24 season. The Rojiblancos were knocked out of the Champions League in the group stages which resulted in the questioning of the way the team is handled.
However, further reinforcements could help the team get back in shape. And this will not depend on whatever happens to head coach Diego Simeone, whose future is in doubt at the Wanda Metropolitano with names like Marcelo Gallardo linked as potential replacements for the Argentine.
According to Mundo Deportivo vía Fichajes, Atletico Madrid is planning for the summer transfer window and will also try to maintain the strength of the existing squad.
The reason is, the clubs’ top hierarchy wants to avoid a repetition of this year’s Champions League outcome, where they lost out despite having teams like Club Brugge, and FC Porto in the same group.
Ahead of the summer transfer window, Atletico Madrid has three main objectives.
The 3 Atletico Madrid transfer targets 2023
Marcus Thuram
Marcus Thuram has been declared a free agent and has been subject to interest from top European clubs including Manchester United. The French forward has been linked to Atletico Madrid in recent months.
One of the problems the club faces is having a reliable number nine.
Marcus Thuram is a top-level player who could bring the attacking bite to the team. He was one of France’s best forwards alongside Kylian Mbappé at the last World Cup in Qatar.
Ramy Bensebaini or Hugo Bueno
Tottenham loanee Sergio Reguilón is expected to return to his parent club at the end of the season. This will force the team to enter the market for a reliable left-back for the new project. Borussia Monchengladbach defender Ramy Bensebaini and Wolves man Hugo Bueno could replace the Spaniard.
But in England, Hugo Bueno has been advised not to leave Wolverhampton Wanderers in case Atletico Madrid pushes for a transfer in the summer transfer window which starts on July 1.
Caglar Soyuncu
Caglar Soyuncu could be on his way to Atletico Madrid in the summer transfer window as a free agent. The Turkish defender is almost certainly cleared to leave Leicester City because he is not having regular minutes.
That being said, Caglar Soyuncu’s arrival at the Wanda Metropolitano will depend on the departure of Mario Hermoso, who according to Football Espana could join Premier League club Nottingham Forest in the summer.
