Super Bowl winners, the  List Champions & most successful American football teams in the history of the tournament.

 

Who are the most successful teams in the Super Bowl? Who are the winners?  Who won the 2020 edition.

 

The Competitions has produced several notable winners in the past since its inception and the most notable Champion of the tournament is New England Patriots alongside Pittsburgh Steelers.

 

 

The tournament is a yearly American football Competitions that are contested by teams in the United States NFL football association.

 

The winner of the Super Bowl is always awarded the Vince Lombardi Trophy.

 

 

This award was created in honour of NFL coach Vince Lombardi, who was on hand to guide his team the Green Bay Packers to major success in the early times of the competition.

 

He won the first two Super Bowl games and have been recognized as a top Coach.

 

In the history of the competition, Boston / New England Patriots have emerged victorious on many occasions than any other team in the NFL division in the United States.

 

This has however challenged other sides to provide tough competition for the England team.

 

The Popularity of the Super Bowl is intense most especially within the United States of America and have witnessed top American music stars perform at the Half Time Show including The weekend.

New England Patriots

The New New England Patriots are a professional American Football club competing in the National Football League and plays its home matches at the Gillette Stadium.

 

They are the most successful team in the history of the Super Bowl with over six titles won history.

 

Founded in 1960, the team has gone on to win six titles and is currently regarded as one of the best in the United States.

 

The Patriots also enjoy the record as the team with the highest number of appearances in the Super Bowl Competitions with eleven times.

 

Golden Era


The New England Patriots entered the American Football Scene in 2001, lifting the Super Bowl that year.

 

The Patriots claimed it’s the first title despite the problems faced by the season in 2001.

 

After the win in 2001, it took the club another three years to become Champions once again coming in 2003.

 

After qualifying from the AFC, the team defeated NFC Champions Carolina Panthers in the final to lift its second trophy.

 

For the Patriots, it is looking like the Golden Era of the team and indeed it was a golden era.

 

In the following season, they lifted the title Once again, becoming one of the team’s to have won the Bowl back to back in the history of the competition.

 

The final was fiercely contested by the two finalists, but The Patriots rallied round to defeat the Eagles by the score of 24–21 in a game that sent signals across the country, marking the fresh emergence of the New England based team.

 

The final match was held on February 6, 2005, at Alltel Stadium in Jacksonville, Florida.

 

After the historical achievement of winning the Super Bowl back to back, it took the team another ten years to add another trophy it’s a cabinet in 2014.

 

 

To follow with the recent triumph, the Patriots won it again two years later.

 

The last time the team lifted became Champions was in 2018 where they emerged winners by defeating defeated national Football Conference (NFC) champion Los Angeles Rams, 13–3. A win that was termed too easy for the New England based team.

 

The clash between the two sides was played on February 3, 2019, at Mercedes-Benz Stadium in Atlanta.

 

Other notable trophies won by the team includes eleven AFC Conference championships, twenty-two AFL East championships (22) last won in 2019.

Pittsburgh Steelers

 

Pittsburgh Steelers is an American football professional team based in Pittsburgh and competes in the National Football League as a franchise team from the AFC Northern division.

 

The team plays its home games at Heinz Field.

 

The team is regarded as the seventh-oldest team in the NFL and the oldest in the AFC division.

 

Pittsburgh Steelers have won over six titles and are joint title winners of the American Super Bowl.

 

Golden Era

The team entered the Super Bowl scene as Champions back in 1974 by lifting the inaugural Competitions that year.

 

Although it was tough to achieve, the Pittsburgh based team defeated the Minnesota Vikings in the final to claim its first title.

 

Steelers won the game with a score of 16 to 6.

The following year in 1975, the team won it again to make it back to back wins.

In the final match, Pittsburgh Steelers crushed Dallas Cowboys with a score of 21–17 in a fiercely contested encounter.

 

This time, it took another three years for the team to make it three Championships in total after just lifting its first trophy four years ago.

 

The following season in 1979, Pittsburgh Steelers came back stronger was again to lift the Super Bowl as was crowned Champions of the tournament for the fourth time.

 

This win made it four Championships in the space of six years.

 

The Steelers however went on hiatus after the golden Era only to return in 2005 to win its fifth title and in 2008 to complete the six Super Bowl trophies.

Dallas Cowboys

Dallas Cowboys, an American football professional team based in Dallas and competes in the National Football League.

 

The founded in 1960, the Cowboys are one of the most respected sides in the NFL.

 

The team have won five titles in its history with the first coming in the 1971 season and had to wait for another six before adding another trophy to its cabinet in 1977.

 

After that triumph, there was a very big wait for another Championship. However, the wait became over when the team reached the conference finals in 1992 at the expense of the Buffalo Bills.

 

In 1993, the team won it again to achieve back to back wins of the United States NFL Super Bowl. The last time the Dallas Cowboys won the title was in 1995.

The San Francisco 49ers are an American football professional team based in San Francisco and compete in the NFL.

 

The San Francisco 49ers have won over five Super Bowl and listed its name on the all-time winner’s list in the fourth position.

 

The club is one of the most popular in the division.

 

In modern American football Competitions most especially in the conference finals, the 49ers have failed to lift a single trophy since it’s the last triumph during the 1994 season.

 

The 49ers entered the Super Bowl winners list in 1981 by winning the trophy that year.

Three years later, the team added a second before making it third and fourth titles after back to back trophy wins in 1988 and 1989 season respectively.

However, the team had to endure until 1996 to pick up another trophy.

 

In 2010, the team enjoyed a blissful season and got to the finals, beating Pittsburgh in a score of 25- 31 in a fiercely contested encounter.

 

Green Bay has won a total of four Super Bowl titles and has appeared in the conference playoffs over thirty-four times.

 

New York Giants

New York Giants is an American football professional team based in New York City and competes in the National Football League.

 

The club has won four titles starting from 1986 season, before adding another trophy four years later in 1990.

 

The team however carried with its consistency until the reward came during 2007.

 

In the 2011 season, the New York Giants made it four titles.

The Denver Broncos won back to back titles between 1997 and 1998.

 

The most recent triumph came during the 2015 football season, beating Carolina Panthers with a score of 10-24 in an almost one-sided final.

 

Washington Football Team

Washington Football Team formerly known as Redskins is an American football professional team based in the United States capital city Washington DC.

 

The team won its first-ever Super Bowl title in the 1982 season and waited for another five years in 1985 to clinch a second title and the fourth four years later in 1991.

 

The team has over 25 conference playoffs appearances.

 

Las Vegas Raiders

Las Vegas Raiders is an American football professional team based in Las Vegas and competes in the National Football League.

 

The team boost a total of three Super Bowl wins between 1976, 1980 and 1983.

The Format

The Super Bowl being the  National Football League championship game, sees the  winner of the AFC division against the champion of the NFC division.

 

The new game introduced after an agreement as made to merge the AFL and the NFL in 1966.

A total of six teams from each conference qualify for the playoffs round.

 

The remaining four division winners will now qualifying automatically.

 

In the conference playoffs round, teams will be drawn against each other to play out a knockout game where the winner advances to the next round.

 

The winner of the two remaining teams clash is crowned Champions for that year.
