The Black Cats will have a busy schedule when the pre-season begins in July, with friendlies in England and the summer tour of the USA.

Sunderland finished sixth last season and was eliminated by Premier League-bound Luton Town in the promotion playoffs semi-finals.

South Shields vs Sunderland 

Date: Saturday, 8th July 2023

Venue: 1st Cloud Arena, Jarrow

Sunderland confirmed a test match against Northern Premier League side South Shields at 1st Cloud Arena in Jarrow.

The match will kick off at 12:30 PM BST. It will be the first outing of the day for the Black Cats, after which they will head to the other game against Gateshead.

Gateshead vs Sunderland

Date: Saturday, July 8th, 2023

Venue: Gateshead International Stadium, Gateshead, Tyne and Wear.

On the day’s second outing, Sunderland will visit the Gateshead International Stadium to face Gateshead.

Gateshead FC competes in the National League, the fifth tier of the English football pyramid.

San Antonio vs Sunderland

Date: Sunday, 16th July 2023

Venue: Toyota Field, Madison, Alabama

Sunderland would begin their tour of the United States with a test match against USL Championship side San Antonio FC.

The clash will be played at Toyota Field, which has a seating capacity 7000.

Sunderland vs New Mexico United

Date: Saturday, July 15th, 2023

Venue: Isotopes Park, Albuquerque, New Mexico

Tony Mowbray boys will travel to Albuquerque, New Mexico, where they’ll take on another USL Championship side New Mexico United at Isotopes Park.

North Carolina vs Sunderland

Date: Friday 21st July 2023

Venue: WakeMed Soccer Park, Cary, North Carolina

This would be the Black Cats’ third and final game in the tour of the United States. The test match will be played at WakeMed Soccer Park, a 10,000-seater stadium.

North Carolina FC is a football club that competes in the USL League One.
