Sporting CP are back in the Liga Pro this weekend with a test against Casa Pia. Rúben Amorim’s men were eliminated from the Portuguese Cup last weekend by Varzim.

As Porto and Benfica clash on Friday in the top-of-the-table battle, Sporting would be looking to close the gap at the top with a convincing result against Casa Pia.

Sporting are surprisingly fifth on the league table with a point adrift of fourth-placed Casa Pia, who has been outstanding since the start of the season.

The visitors, on the other hand, have been exceptional, winning five games out of the previous six games in the league.

Sporting’s unexpected exit from the Portuguese Cup means the team would shift focus to the domestic league, where they’re sitting fifth behind Casa Pia.

Rúben Amorim’s Champions League disappointment must be corrected on the home front. A convincing result would see the club move to third above Sporting Braga, who take on Estoril Praia on the road.
