Soccer players to score 50+ goals per season
Scoring 50 goals in a season is one of the most impressive feats in football. It requires skill, consistency, and endurance to maintain such a high level of performance throughout a long and demanding campaign. Only a few players have achieved this career milestone, and even fewer have done it more than once.
Here are some great players who have scored more than 50 goals in a season across different leagues and competitions.
Erling Haaland
The newest name on the block, Manchester City goal machine Erling Haaland scored his 50th goal as Cityzens edged past Fulham at Craven Cottage to move top of the Premier League. The Norwegian, in his first season in England, is already breaking records.
Cristiano Ronaldo

Cristiano Ronaldo is arguably the greatest goalscorer of all time. He has scored over 800 goals for club and country and has won numerous individual and team awards. He is also the only player to achieve more than 50 goals in a season seven times.
Ronaldo achieved this feat for the first time in the 2009-10 season when he scored 53 goals for Real Madrid in his debut campaign with the Spanish giants. He repeated it six more times with Real Madrid between 2010-11 and 2017-18, reaching his peak in 2014-15 when he netted 61 goals in all competitions.
Lionel Messi
Lionel Messi is regarded as one of the best players ever to grace the game. He has won seven Ballon d’Or awards, ten La Liga titles, four Champions League trophies, and many other honours with Barcelona. He has also scored over 750 goals for club and country and more than 50 goals in a season six times.
Messi achieved this feat for the first time in the 2010-11 season when he scored 53 goals for Barcelona in all competitions. He surpassed it five more times between 2011-12 and 2018-19, setting his personal best in the 2011-12 season, when he scored an astonishing 73 goals for Barcelona, including 50 in La Liga alone.
Pele
Pele is considered the greatest player of all time and a symbol of Brazilian football. He played for Santos from 1956 to 1974, scoring an incredible 643 goals in 656 games. He also played for Brazil from 1957 to 1971, scoring another 77 goals in 92 caps. Pele was known as “The King” for his skill, creativity, and charisma.
He scored more than 50 goals in a season four times with Santos between 1961–62 and 1965–66. His personal best was 66 goals in the 1965–66 season, which included 38 in Campeonato Paulista. Pele also led Brazil to three World Cup titles in 1958, 1962, and 1970, where he scored six goals and was named the tournament’s best player.
Gerd Müller

Gerd Müller was one of the greatest strikers of all time and a legend of German football. He played for Bayern Munich from 1964 to 1979, scoring an incredible 566 goals in 607 games. He also played for West Germany from 1966 to 1974, scoring another fantastic 68 goals in 62 caps.
Müller was known as “Der Bomber” for his clinical finishing and prolific scoring rate. He scored over 50 goals in a season four times with Bayern Munich between 1969–70 and 1972–73. His personal best was 67 goals in the 1972–73 season, which included 40 in Bundesliga
Ferenc Puskás
Ferenc Puskás was one of the greatest players ever and a legend of Hungarian football. He played for Honvéd from 1943 to 1956, scoring 352 goals in 354 games. He also played for Hungary from 1945 to 1956, scoring another fantastic 84 goals in just 85 caps. Puskás was known as “The Galloping Major” for his leadership and attacking prowess. He scored over 50 goals in a season four times with Honvéd between 1947–48 and 1953–54.
