Sergio Álvarez: Celta Vigo goalkeeper retires from football
Celta Vigo goalkeeper Sergio Álvarez has retired from active football at the club after he spent almost his entire professional career at the club.
The 34-year old goalkeeper called it an end to his career after a turbulent season in Spain marked by series of injuries which further prevented him from regular first-team football.
Since the start of the 2021 football season in Spain, the Spanish goalkeeper only managed a single appearance for his club.
Bidding farewell to the club, the former Spanish goalkeeper did so in front of his teammates by announcing his retirement from active football after serving the club.
Promoted to the club’s senior side in 2011, Álvarez enjoyed over 162 appearances for the club.
Chegou o día. O #GatoDeCatoira anuncia a súa retirada do fútbol profesional.
Celtista, capitán, canteirán, exemplo no profesional e no persoal… Non hai palabras dabondo para describir a Sergio.
Hoxe e sempre, 𝒖𝒏 𝒅𝒐𝒔 𝒏𝒐𝒔𝒐𝒔.
