Semi Ajayi’s West Brom loose heavily to Leeds United in the Premier League

Nigerian defender Semi Ajayi was in action yesterday in the Premier League with his club West Brom as they lost heavily to visitors Leeds United after returning from a well-deserved draw with Liverpool a day after boxing day.

The Nigerian who created history in the process played ninety minutes as he saw his side concede over five goals at home despite making major changes in the managerial department.

The baggies started poorly after Sawyers caused an own goal to put them behind just barely ten minutes into the game. The own goal in the ninth minute made the home side desperate in search of an equalizing goal.

In the process, leading the path for Ezgjan Alioski, who increased Leeds United lead to two goals in the 31st minute.

As if this was not enough, the poor defensive display from the home side further gave more room for Leeds United to explore, even as Jack Harrison and Rodrigo each scored in the space of five minutes to make it four.

Ajayi who was on the pitch for ninety minutes has seen his team struggle since the beginning of the Premier League season, including a glorious 3-0 lead against Chelsea, before the blues came back to play out a draw at the end.

The 27-year old Nigerian defender has since featured for the club over fifteen times in the league this season with a goal to his name.

He was outstanding, came into the EPL as one of the best defenders in the English Championship during the last campaign. However, the club’s form in the English top-flight appears not to be at the height of winning matches against bigger opposition.

At the moment, they site second to the last on the league table with just eight points after 16 matches.

For Semi Ajayi, this could be one of the major avenues to further expose himself to bigger clubs within and outside England.

Before the start of the 2020/2021 campaign in England, he was linked with a move away from England as possible destinations including Turkey and France was mentioned.
