The humiliating defeat in the hands of FC Bayern Munich last Friday has forced Schalke’s top hierarchy to search for a possible replacement for David Wagner as soon as possible.
Schalke lost 8-0 in the hands of the Bundesliga champions at the Allianz Arena.
For David Wagner, it appears last season’s pardon was enough for a quick change in terms of the team’s performance.
Coupled with a winless run in the second half of last season, Wagner was heading for the exit door before club sporting director Jochen Schneider opted to keep the German for another season.
Schalke’s depreciating team is also another big question mark. In the summer transfer, the club only made few moves. Vedad Ibisevic was one of the major names signed to the club.
On the other hand, Weston McKennie left the club for Juventus on loan with an option to buy at the end of the loan spell.
According to Bild as cited by Fussball Transfers, there’s already an ultimatum given to David Wagner to improve. The German portal also revealed talks are ongoing between the club’s sporting director and a few potential candidates.
Notable names already mentioned include former Mainz 05 coach Sandro Schwarz. This weekend, Schalke will face SV Werder Bremen and the outcome of the game will determine if David Wagner will remain or face the exit door.
