Revealed: Why Marcelo Gallardo is leaving River Plate
Marcelo Gallardo has decided to leave one of the biggest football clubs in South America, Club Atlético River Plate. Although it was a tough decision to leave the club, there’s a reason he did so.
The Argentine has been part of the River Plate coaching role since 2014, winning many trophies on the continent, including the two Copa Libertadores in 2014 and 2018.

The news of his departure surprised many Argentine football followers as he was expected to be with River Plate for one more year.
Why Marcelo Gallardo left River Plate after eight successful years
The Argentine manager saw he was no longer going well with him at the club despite making lots of additions during the transfer window without any success. And this brings the decision to step aside from his position as the club’s head coach.
“Sunday will be my last game at the Monumental. It has been a beautiful story”, says Marcelo Gallardo, as cited by Fichajes.
His departure would force River Plate to search for a manager capable of emulating his success at the club. Although this could be pretty challenging, there has to be a solution to put the club on the map.
