Barcelona was close to securing the services of Spaniard Eric Garcia from Manchester City on transfer deadline day, but two million became a stumbling block for the Catalans.
Barca offered Manchester City over ten million euros plus add-ons in a bid to sign Garcia, but the Cityzens rejected the offer. As a result, club sporting director Josep Maria Bartomeu had to intervene in the discussions with Premier League club (h/t Todoblaugrana)
Manchester City clearly stated they want an additional two million for the young centre-back. But the Spanish La Liga runners up last season were not willing to pay.
Barcelona on the other hand, are willing to wait until January to sign the 19-year old on a free transfer. Garcia’s contract with the Cityzens is expected to expire in January since the Spaniard had not shown interest in signing a contract extension with the club.
The role of the Spanish youth international is still very much valued, but not until the arrival of Nathan Ake and Ruben Dias in the summer transfer window. As a result, Garcia could sit out of the starting eleven until his contract expires in January.
City manager, Pep Guardiola would be planning with Ake and Ruben Dias since Garcia has no future with the club. The Spanish manager knows planning the season with 19-year old would be a bad idea.
