Real Madrid managers ranking by titles – top 5 most successful in history


Many great coaches have sat on the bench of Real Madrid, but statistically, the best performance has been their current manager “Don Carlo.” Ancelotti, who is currently in his second term at the “royal club,” achieved 105 victories in 140 official matches, which gives a total of 72% of wins. 


Don Carlo became the first coach to lift the UCL trophy four times. The fact that he has managed to maintain his coaching philosophy and tactical supremacy in a gap of almost 20 years shows how great he is.


5. Vicente Del Bosque – 8 trophies

When Del Bosque started his managerial career in Real Madrid Castilla, nobody thought that he could become one of the most successful


Real Madrid managers of all time. On both occasions, he was appointed as caretaker in 1994 and 1996, and finally, in 1999, he was appointed as Real Madrid’s manager. He led the team from 1999 to 2003 and won 2 LaLiga, Spanish Super Cup, Iberoamerican Cup, 2 UEFA Champions League, UEFA Super Cup, and Intercontinental Cup.


4. Luis Molowny – 8 trophies


Molowny was appointed as Real Madrid’s manager in 1974, and he remained in the team until 1986. Interestingly, he was always at the club, but he was appointed manager only when the post was empty, between managers changing.


However, he successfully led the team to 3 La Liga, 2 Copa del Rey, League Cup, and 2 UEFA Cup titles.


3. Carlo Ancelotti – 9 trophies

The current manager of Real Madrid, Ancelotti, is in 5th place if we count the number of trophies won with this team. He will be remembered as the manager who led the team to the 10th Champions League title “La Decima” in 2014 after a 12-year wait.

Considering both periods in Real Madrid 2013-2015 and 2021-current, he has won 9 trophies: 1 LaLiga title, 1 Copa del Rey, 1 Supercopa de Espana, 2 UEFA Champions League, 2 UEFA Super Cups, and 2 FIFA Club World Cup.


2. Zinedine Zidane -11 trophies

Zidane is a winner; he always sets his team up for victory. He is the second most successful manager in the history of Real Madrid, judging by the trophies won, but the most successful in terms of trophies per game played (23 games per trophy won). He will be remembered as the only manager in history that won 3 Champions League titles with one team in a row.


Zidane was manager of Real Madrid from 2016-2018 and 2019-2021, winning 2 La Liga, 2 Spanish Super Cup, 3 Champions League, 2 UEFA Super Cup, and 2 FIFA Club World Cup titles.


Miguel Munoz – 14 trophies


Miguel Munoz was manager of Real Madrid for 14 years, from 1960 to 1974. Before that, in 1959, he was manager of Real Madrid’s second team, Plus Ultra. Munoz is the first player ever to win the European Cup as a player and manager, both with Real Madrid.

With Munoz as manager Real dominated the Spanish league in the 1960s, winning 9 La Liga, 2 Copa del Rey, 2 European Cup, and Intercontinental Cup titles. He was very successful and respected as a player and especially as a manager, and today the award for the best manager of the season in the Spanish League carries his name, The Trofeo Miguel Munoz.
