Published

on

Real Madrid is one of the most successful and prestigious football clubs in the world. With numerous domestic and international titles, they are widely regarded as one of the greatest teams in the sport’s history.

However, even the most successful teams can experience crushing defeats, and Real Madrid is no exception. In this article, we will look at some of Real Madrid’s biggest losses throughout its history.

Espanyol 8-1 Real Madrid (1930)

This is the biggest defeat that Real Madrid has ever suffered in its history, and it came from their Catalan rivals Espanyol.

The match was played at Sarria Stadium in Barcelona, and Espanyol dominated from start to finish. They scored four goals in each half, with Cristobal Muntaner netting a hat-trick and Josep Samitier adding two more. Real Madrid’s only goal came from Gaspar Rubio in the second half.

Real Madrid 0-6 Athletic Bilbao (1931)

This is the biggest home defeat that Real Madrid has ever suffered in its history, and it came against another Basque side Athletic Bilbao. The match was played at Chamartin Stadium in Madrid, and Athletic Bilbao showed no mercy to their hosts. They scored three goals in each half, with Guillermo Gorostiza scoring four times and Jose Iraragorri adding two more.

Barcelona 5-0 Real Madrid (2010)

The “El Clasico” derby between Real Madrid and Barcelona is one of the most hotly contested rivalries in world football. In 2010, Barcelona handed Real Madrid one of their most humiliating defeats ever. Led by Lionel Messi, who scored a brace, Barcelona put five past Real Madrid in a dominant display of attacking football.

Barcelona 6-2 Real Madrid (2009)

In another “El Clasico” derby, Barcelona handed Real Madrid another humiliating defeat in 2009. Led by a brilliant performance from Lionel Messi, Barcelona scored six goals against their bitter rivals. Thierry Henry also scored for Barcelona, while Gonzalo Higuain and Sergio Ramos found the net for Real Madrid.

AC Milan 5-0 Real Madrid (1989)

In the 1989 European Cup semi-final, Real Madrid traveled to Italy to take on AC Milan. What followed was a devastating display of attacking football by the Italian side, who put five past the Spanish giants without reply. Marco van Basten scored a hat-trick, while Ruud Gullit and Carlo Ancelotti also found the net.

While Real Madrid has had many great moments throughout their history, these defeats serve as a reminder that even the best teams can suffer crushing losses. However, with their winning mentality and commitment to excellence, Real Madrid will no doubt bounce back from these setbacks and continue to compete at the highest level of football.
