RB Leipzig kickstarts the new Bundesliga season at home to Mainz 05 at the Red Bull Arena in front over 8,000 fans allowed to take part.
Leipzig knows they are on little pressure to perform since the other top teams in the division like Bayern Munich, Borussia Dortmund, Hoffenheim, Hertha Berlin all got a winning start.
Leipzig, however, will not be left behind in the opening day top-performing teams. Last season League Champions Bayern Munich smashed Schalke 04 8-0 to send a big message across to Julian Nagelsmann and his boys, who could manage a draw at the Allianz Arena late last season despite Bayern’s onslaught.
How Julian Nagelsmann would approach the game
At this point, there would be no reason to begin on a defensive note against Mainz 05. Leipzig is a side known for their attacking style of football.
For Nagelsmann, he could approach the game with a lone man upfront which would be Hwang Hee-Chan or Dani Olmo, his most preferred in the last couple of games or a triple force.
The manager could employ a 3 – 4 – 3 with Hwang Hee-Chan, Dani Olmo and or Emil Fosberg, Christopher Nkunku as another option.
In the middle, Tyler Adams has grown in confidence and could continue today. Haidara and Angelino are the remaining options.
The game is expected to be an all attack since Nagelsmann would need a win to keep close tabs with the rest of teams in the division.
