RB Leipzig to miss Ilaix Moriba due to African Cup of Nations with Guinea
RB Leipzig newcomer Ilaix Moriba will be out of action with the Bundesliga club due to his engagement for the upcoming African Cup of Nations in Cameroon.
The 18-year old former FC Barcelona jewel is currently on the list of players selected by the Guinean national team coach Kaba Diawara who’s looking at increasing his squad depth ahead of the finals.
RB Leipzig splashed 16 million euros in the summer to bring Ilaix Moriba to the Bundesliga. However, the former Spanish youth player is yet to make a meaningful impact and would be out for the AFCON from January.
The AFCON in Cameroon offers a window of opportunity for Moriba to improve on himself as he’d faced tough competition since switching from FC Barcelona to the Saxony based club.
Leipzig problems and a need to improve
Although the appointment of Domenico Tedesco has brought significant changes to the club, a lot needs to be done. There’s no time to begin from scratch with the current Bundesliga standings, not in favour of the club.
Tedesco has to do without Ilaix Moriba due to the African Cup of Nations. Leipzig is currently tenth on the standings with twenty-two points needing a lot of work when the second half of the season makes a return.
So far this season with RB Leipzig, Ilaix Moriba has featured twice in Bundesliga, three in the Champions League and once in the DFB-Pokal. The midfielder is a work in progress and a lot is expected of him as he continues with his career in Germany.
