Match Preview and Prediction
Rayo Vallecano is currently experiencing troubleshooting times to preserve its status at the top of Spanish football. The Madrid based football club would have sought a return to winning ways in the mini Madrid derby against Real Madrid.
Vallecano has lost its last four La Liga games against average sides like Elche, Real Betis Balompié, Osasuna and Celta Vigo. Although the club still occupies the eleventh spot on the league table, an outright win would help maintain it.
One problem Rayo Vallecano has faced this season is its ability to hold the backline. It has one of the worst defensive records in La Liga this season, with over nine goals conceded in the last four matches.
The last time Rayo earned a win was on the 2nd of February in a Copa del Rey clash with RCD Mallorca. The tie finished 1-0 in favour of Rayo.
Real Madrid knows what’s a stake at this point. The Los Blancos have moved on from the Champions League round of 16 loss to Paris Saint-Germain a week ago.
Head Coach Carlo Ancelotti made minor changes to the team that lost to Real Madrid and achieved a convincing win over Deportivo Alaves even though it was left late.
Real Madrid at the moment is in good form except for the Champions League first-leg loss to Paris Saint-Germain and the Copa del Rey exit in the hands of Athletic Club Bilbao.
The pressure at the top of the league table after 25 matchdays continues with Sevilla pushing forward. As things stand, Real Madrid is six points clear at the top. A win against Rayo Vallecano would further increase their lead at the top.
Score Prediction: 0-2
