After leaving RB Leipzig last season, the German was linked with several clubs including AC Milan and Schalke 04. But the recent report suggests the 62-year old manager could handle the role of sporting director at AS Roma.
Rangnick could have landed the top job at AC Milan last season. However, a deal with the Italian Serie A side could not materialize at the end.
Recently, he was also linked with a return to Schalke 04 after the Royal Blues sacked underperforming manager David Wagner after two matches into the new season.
But AS Roma city newspaper “Il Messaggero” via Fussball Transfers suggest he is the favourite to be awarded the top job at the club. Rangnick also faces competition from Fabio Paratici, who is under criticism after a mixed transfer market at Juventus.
The Roman City newspaper revealed talks between the owner of AS Roma and Rangnick took place weeks ago. Ralf Rangnick wants to handle the position of sporting director and at the same time the head coach of AS Roma.
But that would mean sacking the current manager Paulo Fonseca.
