Match Preview and Prediction
Philadelphia Union
Philadelphia Union recorded just one win out of three Preseason friendlies. A 2-1 win over CF Montréal was the only headline of the Philly Preseason tour ahead of the 2022 MLS season.
Philadelphia Union reached the semi-finals of the 2021 MLS Cup playoffs, where they lost to eventual winners New York City FC. Head Coach Jim Curtin entrusted the 4 – 3 – 2 – 1 formation, which did not work correctly against the New York City FC.
Although some experiments were conducted, Jim Curtin could still follow last season’s 4 – 3 – 2 – 1 formation in the MLS 2022 opener against Minnesota United FC.
Minnesota United
Minnesota United FC was unlucky in the 2021 MLS Cup round of 16 after being eliminated by Portland Timbers. The Minnesota based soccer team had struggled throughout their Preseason friendlies.
In five matches played by Minnesota United, just one win and three draws was recorded.
Last season in the club’s previous competition match against Portland Timbers in the Round of 16, Head Coach Adrian Heath sought a 4 – 2 – 3 – 1 formation, which did not work correctly as his side were outmatched by Portland, who won the game 3-1.
Adrian Heath, however, enjoyed many victories with the 4 – 2 – 3 – 1 formation throughout the regular season last year, and it could be his number one formation in the 2022 MLS season.
Score Prediction: 2-1
