Nigerian Football "Osimhen is the great absentee" - La Repubblica journalist Antonio Corbo

“Osimhen is the great absentee” – La Repubblica journalist Antonio Corbo

The fact that Napoli is yet to feel the gains of signing Victor Osimhen from French Ligue 1 side Lille continues to be on the minds top Italian journalist who is yet to see his major impact in the team so far.

Osimhen was subbed off during Nigeria’s AFCON Qualifiers against Sierra Leone, marking the beginning of his injuries at the new club, although his records stand to be free from injuries.

The shoulder injury he sustained kept on the sidelines for several weeks, including the entire winter holiday in Belgium.

Since making his debut for the Partenopei, he’s only managed two goals in six appearances. However, the La Repubblica journalist sees him as a big absentee in the team looking at how he’s been unavailable when the team needed his services.

That been said, the club had to rely on Andrea Petagna, who appears not to familiar with the Italian Serie A.

Lozano Hirving and Lorenzo Insigne have also managed to carry the team, even though the rate of goals scored without Osimhen has been very low.

According to Antonio Corbo journalist at La Repubblica, Victor Osimhen is an absentee in the team.

“Better Leao or Osimhen? They are not comparable today. Leao scored an extraordinary goal yesterday, Osimhen is the great absentee of the moment. We have to ask this question again in another moment of the championship, I promise the answer in May. It seemed strange to me that he activated us so much to deny the fine against Osimhen when instead it was necessary to reiterate severity ” said the journalist as cited by Tutonapoli.

Osimhen was expected to return to the first team before the end of January, but the recent coronavirus positive result stands on his way, which could keep him out for another long period.

Gennaro Gattuso is particularly worried about the long absence of the Nigerian as this has affected the team’s overall performance, leading to insufficient goals throughout his time on the sidelines.
