Olumide Durojaiye: Ex Tottenham star Nigeria dreams already sinking
Nigeria born British midfielder Olumide Durojaiye who’s dreams of playing for the Super Eagles of Nigeria is already sinking the dream.
Born in London, he is very much eligible to represent the country of his birth and where his traditional roots lie.
The 28-year old left Tottenham Hotspur in 2011 for Norwich City, while still at the youth development squad of the Spurs.
However, he began his professional career with Falkirk and have played most of his career in the lower divisions of England.
The national team career already sunk
The desires to represent the Super Eagles of Nigeria is already sunk in the drains at this point. This is because of the high level of competition in the team.
Also, the current level of the team he plays for is another problem for the Super Eagles handlers to consider.
At this point, there would be a lot of questioning from within and outside the board of directors at the countries Football Federation if a player is called up without having a good history behind him.
For Olumide Durojaiye, the could be the case that would deprive them of representing the country he has already desired to play for in the past.
Even after he was called up for the U20 setup, it still did not create room for him to break into the senior team easily.
There have been players who have played for the country’s youth setup and failed to play for the senior team in the end.
Would he ever get the chance to represent his dreamland?
The way forward for Olumide Durojaiye who’s currently playing in the lower league
Honestly looking at how his career has been moving, it would be almost impossible to receive an invitation to the Nigeria Super Eagles.
At least, not at his current level of football. To be considered a place, you’ll have to play at the highest level.
Probably, the style of play, commitment and concentration could create an opportunity for him someday.
