Since the rebranding, Ishaya Jatau was the first to be recorded on the all-time NPFL top scorers chart in 1990 while playing for Iwuanyanwu Nationale, now Heartland Football club.
Paul Kpoughoul became the first foreign non-Nigerian listed on the all-time scorer’s chart.
The DR Congo footballer was with Jasper United in 1997, scoring 16 goals.
Joetex Frimpong from Ghana also made history as the second foreigner to be crowned the highest goalscorer of the season. He scored 16 goals with El-Kanemi Warriors.
Jude Aneke was the first player to score 20 goals in a single NPFL season. Aneke achieved this with Kaduna United in 2011.
From then, the tradition started as no single player was able to surpass the goal record held by Aneke. However, in 2014, Mfon Udoh scored 23 goals with Enyimba.
