Not Kimmich nor Zubimendi: Barcelona has a new replacement for Sergio Busquets
Following the departure of the club legend, there have been movements internally to find a suitable replacement. Sergio Busquets, who was rock solid in the midfield, became a free agent at the end of last season and has been rumoured to be heading for the MLS.
In the last couple of weeks, two Bayern Munich names, Joshua Kimmich, and Martin Zubimendi, have been heavily linked to the club. However, the report from Fichajes suggests otherwise.
Per the transfer portal, Xavi Hernandez is looking at the possibility of working with Oriol Romeu as a replacement for Sergio Busquets. The Barcelona boss had contacted the midfield in the past.
And interestingly, the pair worked together at Al-Sadd in the Qatari Premier League. And now he sees him as one of the best options for the midfield.
Perhaps this could be related to the difficulties in getting the services of Joshua Kimmich and Martin Zubimendi.
The new plan would be to work with Oriol Romeu, a key player for Girona last season. And according to statistics, he played almost every La Liga game, scoring twice.
The 31-year-old could also be a good alternative for Blaugrana since his release clause is only five million euros. This could also be an opportunity for Girona to make some money due to the club’s financial situation.
Presently, there’s been no talks about a potential move to Camp Nou as the club needs to assess the situation and decide if he is the ideal option for them.
