Most Golden Boot winners in the Premier League ranked

The Premier League Golden Boot award is presented to the leading goalscorer in the at the end of every season.

 

Following the formation of the Premier League in 1992, top scorers have presented the trophy since 1993. From Teddy Sheringham, who received the inaugural award in 1993, to the most prominent names like Thierry Henry and Alan Shearer.

The Premier League Golden Boot has been awarded to some of the most notable names in the league’s history.

Arsenal and France legend Thierry Henry is the player with the most Premier League Golden Boot awards with four awards. The French international won all four awards at Arsenal.

And one out of the four award-winning seasons was accompanied by one Premier League title with Arsenal. He is the best player to have won the most awards, with three consecutive awards.

 

Henry won his first award in the 2001–02 season with 24 goals. His goal contributions helped Arsenal win the 2001–02 English Premier League title.

 

The following season, the Frenchman was overshadowed by a more dominant performance from Ruud van Nistelrooy, who finished the season with 25 goals to help Manchester United to the title. The Frenchman returned to his best form in the 2003–04 season when Arsenal went unbeaten and won the league title. He scored 30 goals.

 

Henry’s goal-scoring form helped Arsenal claim the ‘Invincible’ status of the modern Premier League era. The Frenchman went on to win three consecutive awards in 2003–04, 2004–05, and 2005–06.

 

2. Alan Shearer

Alan Shearer scored over thirty goals record in 1994–95 season, which helped Blackburn Rovers to the league title.

Shearer went on to win three consecutive Golden Boot awards, thus becoming the first player to win the award consecutively.

 

Shearer was an exceptional player in the English Premier League and could be ranked as one of the league’s greatest-ever goal-scorers.

 

Alan Shearer is the English Premier League all-time highest goal scorer with 260 goals. And as the highest goalscorer in three consecutive seasons, Shearer netted 90 goals in total.

He played for Southampton, Blackburn Rovers, and Newcastle United in the Premier League. At Southampton, he scored 23 goals in 118 league appearances.

 

While at Blackburn, where he won the league title the following season, his 34 goals tally in the 1994–95 season, he scored a total of 112 goals in 138 league appearances for the club.

During his adventure with Newcastle United, he emerged as Premier League Golden Boot winner twice. With the magpies, he scored 148 goals in 303 league appearances.

 

3. Harry Kane

Tottenham Hotspur forward and captain Harry Kane is the first player in the current EPL era to be awarded three Golden Boots.

Kane received his first award in a Tottenham Hotspur shirt in the 2015–16 season, when he scored 25 goals.

 

The English forward won consecutive awards following his record-smashing 29 goals.

Kane returned to the summit after scoring 23 goals in the 2020–21 season six years later. Harry Kane is one of the best strikers in the English Premier League.

 

He joined Tottenham Hotspur as a youth player in 2009. Although he was sent out on loan several times, he’s made a meaningful impact at Spurs more than others who began in the youth ranks.

Kane has won three English Premier League Golden Boots as a Tottenham Hotspur player. His performance took Spurs to fourth and Chelsea on the winner’s chart by clubs.

Michael Owen was the sixth Englishman to win the award and the second to win the Golden Boot consecutively after Alan Shearer.

 

Owen received his first award in the 1997–98 season when he scored 18 goals representing Merseyside-based Liverpool FC. He made two consecutive wins the following season with the same 18 goals with the Reds.

 

5. Jimmy Floyd Hasselbaink

Awards: 2

 

Jimmy Floyd Hasselbaink was the first player from The Netherlands to emerge top scorer of the Premier League. He was also the first European or non-English footballer to be awarded the trophy.

 

Hasselbaink scored 18 goals in the 1998–99 season to emerge as the league’s top scorer. Switching to Chelsea in the 2000–01 season, Hasselbaink scored 23 goals to finish the season as the leading scorer for the second time.

 

6. Didier Drogba

Chelsea and Ivory Coast legend Didier Drogba became the first African to win the Premier League Golden Boot in the 2006–07 season when he scored 20 goals.

 

The prolific Ivorian netted 20 times in 36 outings with the Blues. And three years later, he returned to the field after a splendid season where he scored a personal goal record of 29 to emerge as the top scorer in the 2009–10 campaign.

 

His goal contributions helped Chelsea claim the Premier League title in the same season. Drogba is one of the most celebrated Chelsea players in the modern era of the English Premier League.

The Ivorian international spent eight seasons with Chelsea, winning the top scorer award twice.

 

7. Robin van Persie

Former Arsenal and Manchester United star Robin van Persie was the second Dutch footballer to emerge top scorer in the EPL twice after Hasselbaink.

 

Earlier, Ruud van Nistelrooy became the second player from The Netherlands to win the Golden Boot during the 2002–03 season at Manchester United, scoring 25 goals to help the Red Devils lift the title.

Robin van Persie won his first award in the 2011–12 season with Arsenal, scoring 30 goals in 38 league outings.

 

Van Persie moved to Manchester United the following season and emerged top scorer for the second consecutive season after scoring 26 goals which helped Man United to the title.

 

8. Mohamed Salah

Egyptian Superstar Mohamed Salah became the first Egyptian to win the Premier League Golden Boot and the second African to emerge as the top scorer after Didier Drogba of Ivory Coast.

The Liverpool FC hitman was with Chelsea before transferring to AS Roma in the Italian Serie A. However, he returned to the Premier League following a blistering form in the Italian top flight.

 

Salah rose to the top scorer’s chart in the 2017–18 season with Liverpool FC after scoring a personal record 32 goals in 36 league outings with the Reds.

 

The following season, Gabonese striker Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang, Senegalese Sadio Mané, and Mohamed Salah of Egypt made history as the three Africans to emerge Premier League top Golden Boot winners with 22 goals, respectively.

 

9. Luis Suárez

Awards: 1

 

Uruguayan forward Luis Suárez scored 31 goals to finish the 2013–14 season as the top scorer repeating Liverpool FC. Luis Suarez is the only Uruguayan professional footballer and the second South American to win the award.

 

10. Cristiano Ronaldo

Manchester United star Cristiano Ronaldo won the award during his most valuable years in the Premier League.

 

He became the first Portuguese footballer to win the award following his record-smashing 31 goals in the 2007–08 season with Man United. Manchester United also won the EPL title the same season.

 

Other well-known players who have won the award are Sergio Agüero, Jamie Vardy, Andy Cole, Dimitar Berbatov, Nikolas Anelka, etc.
