Western Conference

 

Last season, was Sporting Kansas City who had all the luxury of finishing at the top of the Western Conference standings followed by Seattle Sounders and Portland Timbers.

 

Although the teams couldn’t complete the season on a high note, the club’s in the division still has the opportunity to compete for honours as the MLS is Back Tournament was introduced by the league governing body.

 

 

For Kansas City, it was a show of class finishing at the top of the standings despite having up to two games that were supposed to be played.

 

 

Second-placed Seattle Sounders wanted to make a difference also, but could not do even as the coronavirus pandemic disrupted the club’s ambitions of winning major trophies.

 

 

Third-placed Portland Timbers, it was also an impressive run of form for the Portland-based club. However, a lot is expected from the club as the new season gets underway from April 2021.

Philadelphia Union ensured it was the best place to finish top of the league table. The Philadelphia based club finish top of the MLS Eastern Conference in the regular season campaign.

 

 

Toronto FC who has high hopes of winning major trophies in 2021 alongside Columbus Crew finished second and third place respectively on the league table during the regular season campaign last time.

It’s been a very long time for one man leading the team and with the recent changes to the squad and its leader, more expected to come up when the season commences from April 2021.

 

Chris Armas, the new club manager is expected to accelerate the club to success from 2021 after the team faced a first-round exit during the playoff round last season.

To the MLS, Higuain is with lots of experience, a team leader and a good goal scorer.

  • New England Revolution

New England Revolution is a professional soccer club based in Greater Boston and competes in the MLS Eastern Conference as one of the top teams.

 

The club will prosecute the MLS 2021 season in a grand style after a disappointing loss in the Conference Cup finals and it would take another stellar performance in 2021 to recount for the losses last year.

 

 

It was indeed a troubling moment for the Boston based club who had its sight on making a name in 2020. However, the news season in 2021 awaits the New England Revolution.

DC United is one of the early MLS Cup winners in Major League Soccer, quickly establishing itself as one of the strongest soccer clubs in the United States of America.

 

 

The club based in the city of Washington DC began to play as an MLS franchise in 1996 and became the club’s top ten charter club of the league.

 

Establishing itself as a giant, the club is one of the most successful teams during the early years of the top-flight league in the country.

 

 

Since it has been ups and downs for the team. Although recent recruitments have seen the team accelerate towards the top of the league table in the past few seasons.

 

The club holds a joint record MLS supporters shield with over four Shields won in the past. Also, DC United have won their MLS Cup and they are one of the only United States-based team to have won a CONCACAF competition which they won in 1998.

La Galaxy for short is one of the best MLS teams right now, they’ve won five MLS Cup between 5 2002, 2005, 2011, 2012 and 2014. Four Supporters Shield.

 

 

 

 

The team has a rivalry in Los Angeles FC who was rebranded from defunct Chivas USA. They’re currently one of the teams to look out for when the new season commences.

 

 

 

 

Arguably, Los Angeles Galaxy is one of the most successful clubs in the United States.

 

 

 

 

4. Real Salt Lake

 

The franchise team plays in the Western Conference after their induction into the league in 2005. They were Champions of the MLS Cup in 2009.

 

 

 

 

The club was Runners up of the CONCACAF Champions League in 2011.

 

 

 

 

Real Salt Lake used to be a major force in the division.

5. San Jose Earthquakes

 

San Jose Earthquakes is a professional soccer club based in San Jose and a member of the MLS Western Conference.

The Denver based team founded in 1995 has been outstanding and have gotten MLS Cup playoffs on several occasions.

 

 

 

 

7. Sporting Kansas City

They are yet to win the MLS Cup or the US Open Cup.

The club surprised many with their outstanding performance throughout the campaign, even though they could not win the Major League Soccer Cup playoffs in the end.

 

Los Angeles had a fine season last year and there’s more expected from them.

 

 

 

13. Austin FC

 

Austin FC is a soccer club that plays in the Major League Soccer, founded in 2018.

 

The 2021 MLS season will be the first season of Austin FC as a member of the Major League Soccer since its inception in 2018 as part of the league’s expansion plan.

 

Austin FC is based in Texas and will prosecute all their matches in the league at the Q2 stadium.

 

 

Major League Soccer format

 

The Major League Soccer runs a relegation and promotion free system which allows teams to remain in the division even though they finish bottom of the table.

 

 

The league is divided into two groups, the Western (13 teams) and Eastern Conference (14 teams).

 

The winner of the regular with the most points in the two conferences will be awarded the Supporters Shield and qualifies automatically for the quarter-finals of the MLS Cup playoffs.

 

The teams that finish between the second and seventh qualifies for the MLS Cup playoffs round of 16.
