When it comes to MLS all time stats or leading goal scorers in history, American soccer player Chris Wondolowski is the all time top scorer in the MLS in history having scored 166 goals.

He is closely followed by another American soccer legend Landon Donovan, who sits second on the list with 145 goals throughout his career in the division.

1. Chris Wondolowski (Active)

 

Goals: 166

Position: Forward

Nationality: United States (US)

 

Chris Wondolowski is the leading goal scorer in the MLS history or scoring stats with 166 goals scored since he began his soccer career in the United States in 2005.

 

Nicknamed “Wondo” and known for his good finishing abilities as a forward, he’s gone on to win the Golden Boot award as well as other top awards throughout his career.

 

Today, Chris Wondolowski is one of the greatest all time best players in the United States soccer scene winning club as well as nation trophy with the US Men’s National Team (USMNT).

 

Establishing himself as one of the greatest players of the MLS, Wondolowski is currently the only player in MLS history to have scored ten or more goals in ten consecutive seasons.

 

He began his soccer career as a College athlete with the Chico State Wildcats from 2001 to 2004.

 

He began his professional career with Chico Rooks in the National Premier Soccer League (NPSL) an impressive seventeen goals in sixteen appearances.

 

San Jose Earthquakes – After impressing scouts at the 2005 MLS Supplemental Draft, Chris Wondolowski was picked by the San Jose Earthquakes.

 

He played few games at the club and was unable to actualize his dreams at the club.

 

Houston Dynamo – The following season, he moved to Houston Dynamo, this time he was again made, to begin with, the reserve team just as it was for him at San Jose Earthquakes.

 

 

He was eventually picked for the senior team, scoring his first goal in the league against Chicago Fire in August 2006.

 

At Houston Dynamo, Chris continued to challenge for a first-team shirt in the team, picking 37 appearances and scoring four times throughout the three seasons he spent at the club.

 

Second spell

His break-out season was in 2010 when he emerged as MLS top scorer for the 2010 regular season, scoring 18 goals which led to the award of his first MLS Golden Boot.

 

The following year in 2011, Wondolowski continued with his impressive form from the last campaign, finish the season on a high note by scoring 16 goals.

 

In 2012, he returned to the summit and was awarded the MLS Golden Boot for the second time in three years after scoring a record 27 goals.

 

Beginning from 2016 until 2020, Chris Wondolowski has singlehandedly won the top scorer award at San Jose Earthquakes four times.

 

Making a return to his first club as a professional soccer player, Wondolowski began to gain more playtime and eventually wrote his name in the history books of the club.

2. Landon Donovan

Landon Donovan is the second all time MLS goal scorer in history with 145 goals in 343 appearances.

 

Donovan is currently regarded as one of the greatest American soccer players having helped the USMNT to lift the CONCACAF Gold Cup four times.

 

In club soccer and in the MLS where he achieved greatness, he scored 145 playing for San Jose Earthquakes on loan, and LA Galaxy where he scored most goals in two spells.

 

His professional career began with Bayer Leverkusen in the German Bundesliga where he could only manage seven appears and was eventually loaned to San Jose Earthquakes in the MLS.

 

He enjoyed San Jose Earthquakes’ move, scoring 32 goals in 87 appearances.

 

After six years with Leverkusen, upon the completion of his loan spell at San Jose Earthquakes, Landon was signed by league giants LA Galaxy following his improve form at San Jose Earthquakes.

 

Donovan had an impressive record in Major League Soccer playing for San Jose Earthquakes and LA Galaxy, winning six MLS Cups.

 

His move to San Jose Earthquakes saw immediate success, with the club lifting the MLS Cup title in 2001 and 2003.

 

Most notably, Landon Donovan scored twice to help San Jose Earthquakes beat Chicago Fire SC 4-2 in the 2003 MLS Cup final.

 

More on LA Galaxy’s success, he found the back of the net 12 times in his first season at the club and through the playoff to help the LA Galaxy with MLS Cup.

 

In Landon Donovan’s second season at the club, he scored 12 league goals and registered 8 assists.

 

LA Galaxy won the MLS Cup In 201, courtesy of a goal he scored that handed the title to the club at the expense of Houston Dynamo.

 

Departing the club in 2014, he made a return to the club two years later, scoring just once in six MLS regular season matches.

 

3. Jeff Cunningham

Jeff Cunningham is the third all time MLS top scorer in history with 134 goals in 365 appearances.

 

Jeff Cunningham played the most active years of his career in the US, representing five MLS teams including Columbus Crew, Colorado Rapids, Real Salt Lake, Toronto FC, etc.

 

He was selected during the College Draft by the Columbus Crew.

 

At Columbus Crew, he spent six years, scoring goals in 182 appearances at the club and won the Lamar Hunt U.S. Open Cup in 2002 and MLS Supporters’ Shield in 2004.

 

These were his two major trophies as a player in the MLS. Although, he has goal-scoring abilities which took his career up to the next level.

 

Jeff Cunningham emerged as MLS Golden Boot Winner that is playing with the most goals in a single season twice in 2006 and 2009.

 

At Columbus Crew, Jeff Cunningham is the third all time top scorer with 56 goals.

 

At FC Dallas where he had another outstanding career in terms of goal contributions, he scored 33 goals for the club and was the only second player in the club’s history to be awarded the MLS Golden boot in 2009.

 

His 16 regular season league goals elected him to second place in Real Salt Lake all time top scorer in one season.

 

4. Jaime Moreno

Position: Forward

Nationality: Bolivia

 

Jaime Moreno is the fourth all time top of the MLS with 133 goals in 340 appearances.

 

Jaime Moreno was part of DC United early league success.

 

The Bolivian international contributed goals that helped the club win a record four MLS Cup titles including back to back win in 1996 and 1997.

 

DC United became the first team in history to lift the MLS Cup title.

 

Jaime Moreno was in superb form and also played in the MLS Cup final against Los Angeles Galaxy but failed to score.

 

Reaching a milestone, Moreno scored his 100th goal, thus he became the first MLS player ever to reach the mark.

 

In 1998 Moreno had his best season in the Major League Soccer, as he scored 16 goals and added 11 assists.

 

Four MLS Cup, as well as four MLS Supporters Shield, was a milestone Moreno achieved as a player with DC United.

 

He’d also helped the club win major trophies including the US Open Cup twice, CONCACAF Champions’ Cup once, and Copa Interamericana once.

5. Kei Kamara

Nationality: Sierra Leone

 

Kei Kamara is the fifth all time top scorer in the MLS with 130 goals beginning from 2006 when he began playing Professionally in the division.

 

The Sierra Leonian soccer player is the highest performing African in the MLS.

 

In terms of trophies as well as individual awards, Kei Kamara stands out as the most successful African soccer player in the MLS.

 

Kamara had an impressive scoring record that saw him score 16 goals in 19 appears for Orange County Blue Star.

 

Columbus Crew landed his signature during the 2006 MLS SuperDraft. With the Crew, the Sierra Leonean could only manage just five goals in 36 appearances.

 

He was involving in a swap deal that saw him move to San Jose Earthquakes ahead of the 2008 season.

 

Unfortunately, it was a torrid season for him as he could only manage two goals.

 

At Sporting Kansas City, he became one of the most recognized wingers in the MLS.

 

Kei Kamara had some of the most successful seasons in the MLS, helping Kansas City lift the Eastern Conference Regular Season twice in 2011, and 2012.

 

However, he was loaned to Norwich City and switched to Middlesbrough upon the expiration of his contract.

 

He returned to Columbus Crew in 2015 helping the club to reach the MLS Cup play-offs.

 

At the end of the 2015 MLS season, he finished joint top-scorer of the league, alongside Sebastian Giovinco, with 22 goals.

 

He scored two important goals in a 3–1 win over Montreal Impact in the Eastern Conference semi-finals of the MLS Playoffs.

 

En route to the 2015 MLS Playoff Eastern Conference Finals, Kei Kamara was on target during Columbus Crew 2–0 win over the New York Red Bulls.

 

His goals contributions helped the club in crucial games.

 

He moved to New England Revolution after an impressive career at Columbus Crew. With the Revolution, the Sierra Leonean recorded his first MLS hat trick against Orlando City in a 4–0 win.

 

His move to Vancouver Whitecaps did not last long as he spent a single season before making the switch to Colorado Rapids ahead of the 2018 campaign.

 

The Rapids allowed Kei Kamara to record his second career hat trick in a 6–3 win over CF Montréal which increase his goal tally for the season to 18.

 

At Minnesota United, Kei Kamara went on to become the first MLS player to score for eight different teams.

6. Bradley Wright-Phillips (active)

Nationality: England

 

Bradley Wright-Phillips is the sixth all time MLS top scorer with 116 goals.

 

Bradley moved to the MLS in 2013 to join the New York Red Bulls and have since broken numerous records.

 

In his first full season in the MLS with the New York Red Bulls, the Englishman equalled the Major League Soccer record for most goals in a single campaign, scoring 27 goals, a record that was first held by Roy Lassiter.

 

Bradley Wright-Phillips need two-time MLS Golden Boot winner in 2014 and 2016.

 

He holds the record for most goals scored in a season for New York Red Bulls with 27.

 

In 2014, he scored important goals to help the club reach the MLS Cup playoffs.

 

The following season, he continued with his excellent form as he scored and assisted help the club reach yet another MLS Cup final.

 

In the 2016 campaign, Wright-Phillips scored two goals to help New York achieve a come back 3–2 win over Orlando City SC.

 

Yet again, he scored twice and assisted in a 7–0 thrashing of New York City FC at Yankee Stadium on 21 May, in the New York City derby.

 

Bradley Wright-Phillips achieved an MLS record on 28 May, in a 3–0 home win over Toronto FC, as he scored a hat-trick in the first 27 minutes of the game which became the fastest in the league.

 

In 2020, he joined the Los Angeles FC and scored eight goals in nineteen appearances for the club.

 

He joined Columbus Crew after one season at Los Angeles Galaxy, MLS Cup all time most successful team.

 

The Englishman won the Supporters’ Shield three times in 2013, 2015, and 2018 with the New York Red Bulls.

 

Moving to Columbus Crew in 2021, he won the Campeones Cup.

 

7. Ante Razov

 

Goals: 114

Position: Forward

Nationality: Union States (US)

 

Ante Razov is the seventh MLS all time top scorer with 114 in 262 appearances.

 

The American soccer player as a forward for LA Galaxy, Columbus Crew, New York Red Bulls, and now-defunct Chivas USA.

 

Ante Razov is one of greatest goal scorers in the MLS as he leads the all time scorers chart for Chicago Fire (76 goals) and Chivas USA (30 goals).

 

His first season in the Major League Soccer was at Los Angeles Galaxy where he featured six times, scoring a goal.

 

In 1998, he joined Chicas Fire, one of the earliest MLS France teams, scoring 42 goals in 84 appearances, winning the MLS Cup.

 

Returning from a brief spell at Racing Ferrol, Ante Razov rejoin Chicago Fire where he continued with impressive Scott form, netting 42 times in another 72 appearances.

 

This time, Chicago Fire claimed the Supporters’ Shield in 2003, as well as the Lamar Hunt U.S. Open Cup three times in 1998, 2000, and 2003.

 

In 2005, he scored six goals for Columbus Crew and New York Red Bulls, a surprised move from Columbus Crew to the New York Red Bulls caused by disagreement a few games into the new season.

 

The following season, he joined Chivas USA after a torrid season that saw him switch sides in one season.

 

He went on to become the club’s all time top scorer by scoring 30 goals in 70 appearances.

8. Jason Kreis

American soccer player Jason Kreis is the eighth MLS all time top scorer with 108 goals in 305 games in his nine-year playing career in Major League Soccer.

 

He began to play in the MLS for new french Dallas Burn now FC Dallas.

 

He joined the club in 1996 which was the league’s inaugural season.

 

Before the commencement of the new Major League Soccer that would begin in 1996, Dallas Burn signed Jason Kreis.

 

Making his debut for the club, Jason Kreis became the first Dallas Burn (FC Dallas) player ever to score an MLS goal in the 1996 inaugural season kick-off.

 

He went on to finish the season with 13 goals.

 

In 1999, Jason Kreis emerged as MLS top scorer have scored 51 points (goals), receive the MLS Golden boot.

 

In a total of 247 appearances, he scored 91 goals for FC Dallas.

 

In 2005, he joined Real Salt Lake City and on August 13, 2005, Jason Kreis became the first player in MLS history to score 100 career league goals.

 

9. Dwayne De Rosario

Position: Attacking midfielder, Forward

Nationality: Canada

 

Dwayne De Rosario is the ninth all time top scorer of Major League Soccer with 104 goals in 343 appearances.

 

His Professional Soccer career was elevator following his decision to join San Jose Richmond Kickers in 1999.

 

He rose to prominence from 2000, as he scored 17 goals in over 35 appearances that led to interest from San Jose Earthquakes.

 

In 2001, he moved to San Jose Earthquakes and achieved instant success, winning the MLS Cup title at the end of the season.

 

In 2003, Dwayne De Rosario won his second MLS Cup title with San Jose Earthquakes.

 

Dwayne De Rosario won the MLS Cup title back to back in 2006 and 2007 after switching to Houston Dynamo.

 

In one of his biggest moments, assisted the equalizing goal and scored the winning goal of the 2007 MLS Cup final.

 

 

Switching to Toronto FC, scored goals that led to the club’s success record in the Canadian Championship.

 

In week five of the 2010 MLS season, he was awarded the MLS Player of the Week.

 

Finishing the season on high, De Rosario emerged the winner of the MLS Golden Boot in 2011. He was electric the Major League Soccer 25 Greatest Players in April 2021.

 

He’s also one of the greatest soccer players in the history of soccer in Canada.

 

10. Taylor Twellman

Position: Forward

Nationality: United States (US)

 

Taylor Twellman is MLS tenth all time top scorer with 101 goals.

 

The Americas played for New England Revolution between 2002 and 2010, scoring 101 goals in 174 appearances.

 

Taylor Twellman was an achievement the record as the youngest MLS player to score 100 goals in 2009 at the age of 29.

 

Twellman is the New England Revolution all time top scorer in history with 101 goals. He also won two MLS Golden boot awards in 2002 and 2005.

 

He finished his first season in the league on a bright note. In 2007, he won the US Open Cup with the club.

 

11. Edson Buddle

Position: Forward

Nationality: United States (US)

 

Edson Buddle is one of the eleven players in MLS history to score hundred career goals.

 

He won the MLS Cup and Supporters Shield as a player before his retirement. He scored goals across every MLS club he represent throughout his career.
