Olympique Lyon attacker Memphis Depay says he has fully turned his attention towards his current club, after a failed move to Spanish side Barcelona during the summer transfer window.
Depay was involved in a heated rumour, linking him with a move to the Catalan club in the summer. However, a deal could not materialize at the end.
The Dutch international would have loved to play alongside Lionel Messi, Antoine Griezmann and Philipe Coutinho at Barcelona. But some laws in the Spanish La Liga, prevented a deal from happening between the two clubs.
Barca could not agree with the Lyon star due to issues that may arise as a result of his salary. Depay’s next opportunity to probably join the Catalans could be in January next year.
Speaking on the sidelines during Netherlands international friendly with Mexico, Depay told reporters about his failed move to Barcelona.
“We don’t have to talk about the details, but there were rules that unfortunately prevented the transfer”. said Memphis Depay as cited by Fussball Transfers.
The former Manchester United attacker also said what Olympique Lyon will like to hear at the moment following reported departure from the French club.
According to him, he has now fully turned his attention to Lyon.
“I am now fully concentrating on Olympique Lyon and want to play an important role there again. After that, we see how things develop. If I do my part, it is possible that there will be interest again,”.
