The footsteps left by striker Timo Werner at RB Leipzig are great. Now the one who is supposed to fill it out is clearly certain: Hee-chan Hwang from the Salzburg sister club.
Hee-chan Hwang is under contract in Salzburg.
RB Leipzig apparently gets the replacement for Timo Werner from sister club Red Bull Salzburg. According to the Korean news agency ‘KBS’, Hee-chan Hwang (24) is about to be transferred to the Saxons. “There will be an official announcement soon,” confirms an insider.
This repeats a transfer model that has often been used in the past: Salzburg transfers a player to Leipzig, which is also sponsored by Red Bull. With the Austrian series champion, Hwang played a remarkable series with 37 goals in 38 competitive games and apparently rewards himself with a move to the Champions League quarter-finalists.
It would be the Korean attacker’s second engagement in Germany. In 2018/19, Hwang played as a loan player for Hamburger SV, but was unable to tap his potential due to injury (21 games, two goals, two assists). After his career in Austria has picked up speed again, it now appears that the second attempt in professional German football will follow.
