Marcus Edwards on target in Sporting CP’s shock loss to Boavista
Sporting CP disappointed their fans as Boavista earned a 2-1 victory at their expense after returning from a historic Champions League victory over Tottenham Hotspur earlier in the week.
Bruno Lourenco opened the scoring for Boavista in additional time of the first half, leaving the Green and Whites with a goal down into the break.
Eleven minutes into the second half, Nuno Santos played a neat lofted pass into Boavista’s 18-yard box for Marcus Edwards, who headed home the equaliser from close range.
However, a penalty call following a rough tackle by Ricardo Esgaio neatly converted Antonio Adan to restore the lead for the home side. The loss condemned Sporting CP to their third defeat of the season.
Marcus Edwards has been outstanding since the start of the season. The 23-year-old English forward has now scored three goals in the Portuguese top flight and has not missed a single game for the club.
