Manchester City biggest wins – Top 5 victories in Premier League, Champions League, etc.

In 2007, the foundations of Manchester City, as we know them today, were laid. Thai businessman and former prime minister of that Asian country Thaksin Shinawatra arrived at the head of the club.

In a short time, Thai millions were “pumped” into the club, the famous Swedish coach Sven Goran Eriksson sat on the bench, and the blue team from Manchester had its expectations set high.

City still did not impress in the 2007/08 season. They finished in ninth place but with a record number of points and two wins over Manchester United. Incredible financial instability forced the Thai to look for new buyers, who finally took over the club in August 2008.

It is the Abu Dhabi United Group from the United Arab Emirates, headed by Sheikh Mansour. Manchester City became England’s richest club overnight and one of the richest in Europe, with the Arab millions responsible for bringing in a number of big names over the coming years.

Of course, this changed the club’s history as this team became one of the best teams in Europe and a favourite for winning titles. Here are some of this team’s most impressive wins.

Manchester City 9-0 Burton Albion, January 9, 2019

Manchester City gave a real lesson in elite football to the third division Burton, beating them with an incredible 9:0 in the first match of the semi-finals of the English League Cup.

Although it was expected that the current English champion would have an easy task against the club relegated to the English League Two, no one expected such a “bombardment” of the opponent’s goal.

City scored four goals in the first 37 minutes of the match – two through Gabriel Jesus, one through Kevin de Bruyne, and an excellent goal by Andriy Zinchenko. In the second half, Jesus scored two more goals, and Phil Foden, Kyle Walker, and Riyad Mahrez also scored.

Manchester City 8-0 Watford, September 21, 2019

Manchester City played a phenomenal match at the “Etihad,” so they outclassed Watford with eight goals in their net. “Citizens” entered the competition’s history as the first to score five goals in just 19 minutes.

Bernardo Silva celebrated a hat-trick in the 15th minute and the 48th minute. In the 60th minute, David Silva (1′), Sergio Aguero (7′ from the penalty), Riyad Mahrez (12 ‘), Nicolas Otamendi (18′), and Kevin de Bruyne (85’) scored one goal each.

Manchester City 7-0 RB Leipzig, March 14, 2023

Manchester City won 7:0 (3:0) at the “Etihad” against Leipzig. It advanced to the quarterfinals of the Champions League with a total of 8:1.

Erling Haaland scored five goals in the Champions League Round of 16 match between Manchester City and Leipzig. The Norwegian, a Manchester City player, spent 62 minutes on the field when he destroyed Leipzig. He completed the hat-trick already in the first half, and in the next 15 minutes, scored two more goals and thus sent City to the next stage of the competition.

A magical night for the young striker that many will talk about for a long time and the English champion. It’s not a usual picture to see some team win with this huge goal difference in the knockout phase of the Champions League.

Manchester City 7-0 Leeds United, December 14, 2021

The result could have been double digits in City’s favour, who missed favourable opportunities to inflict a much heavier defeat on the opponent. The Premier League champion played with the guests from “Eland Road,” who once again played poorly in Manchester.

Phil Foden opened city’s series of goals in the eighth minute with a precise shot from the edge of the penalty area.

Two more goals before halftime, first Jack Grealish made it 2:0 with a bit of luck, and Kevin de Bruyne beat the Leeds goalkeeper for the third time in the 32nd minute. The cannonade continued in the second part as soon as it started.

In the 49th minute, Riyad Mahrez shot, the ball changed direction and tricked Ilan Meslier, 4:0. De Bruyne scored his second goal of the match in the 62nd minute, John Stones in the 74th, and Nathan Ake in the 78th minute finished the job.

Manchester City 7-0 Schalke 04, March 12, 2019

Manchester City loves to play against German teams. “Citizens,” after the 3:2 in Gelsenkirchen from the first leg of the round of 16 match in the Champions League, only had to do their routine work. But they hit with all their strength against the weak Schalke and won 7:0.

With the goals of Sergio Aguero, they took the lead 2:0. Before the end of the first part, Leroy Sane entered the scorers’ list after the beautiful action of the home football players. Schalke waved a white flag. If a disaster was avoided, it would be nice… But it was not avoided… Sterling, Bernardo Silva, the young Foden, and Gabriel Jesus hit the “blues” from Gelsenkirchen, causing them the most convincing defeat in European cups.

Interestingly, Schalke’s two most convincing away defeats in Europe are against Manchester City. In 1970, in the semi-finals of the Champions Cup, they lost 5:1 and are now in the round of 16 of the Champions League 7:0.
