Man City vs Bayern Munich: 5 players to watch

Man City began their pre-season tour of the United States with an impressive 2-1 defeat of Club America. But that is only the beginning of an exciting experience for the fans.

Julian Alvarez made his debut for the club, and Kevin De Bruyne continued to maintain his status as the current best Midfielder in the Premier League with two goals to his name.

Interestingly, the defeat of Club America was more of a rehearsal for the Premier League Champions even as they prepare to face German giants Bayern Munich.

The only difference for the Cityzens was the absence of familiar faces like Raheem Sterling and Gabriel Jesus. But for the fans, this signals the start of a new beginning.

City opponents Bayern Munich started on a bright note following the defeat of DC United.

The arrival of Julian Alvarez, Erling Haaland and Kalvin Phillips means there would be some changes to the first team, even though the game with Club America did see big absentees.

Facing Bayern Munich means a lot for coach Pep Guardiola and his team at this point. But who was the standout player against Club America, and what are our expectations?

Kevin De Bruyne

Arguably the best Premier League midfielder and Man City’s midfield coordinator, Kevin De Bruyne, scored twice to help the Citizens see off the Mexican soccer club.

De Bruyne led the team as captain following the departure of Fernandinho at the end of last season. The Belgian was involved in the most dangerous moves that led to a goal-scoring opportunity.

Bernardo Silva

Always a loyal servant of the Cityzens, Silva showed his class with yet another impressive performance in the Manchester City shirt.

Amid rumours of a potential move to FC Barcelona in the Spanish league, Silva remained committed to the City course.

Julian Alvarez

Tipped to be among the future of Manchester City’s forward line alongside Erling Haaland, Alvarez’s debut for the Citizens did not go unnoticed as his performance had drawn more positive reviews on him.

Although no goal contributions for Argentine, Man City is sure in a safe hand this season.

Kalvin Phillips

A long-awaited debut for Kalvin Phillips as he came on as a substitute for Nathan Aké. The former Leeds United man did an excellent job following his introduction into the game.

Jack Grealish

A disappointing first season for Jack Grealish could be match days away from correction. The English forward was a problem for the Club American defence.

Grealish did have the opportunity to open the scoring for the Cityzens but was stopped in the 18-year box, which prompted a strong penalty call.

Bayern Munich had an impressive 6-2 victory over DC United with top players on parade, including Sadio Mané, who opened scoring through the penalty spot five minutes after kick-off.
