Manchester City is arguably one of the best teams in English football. The club has one the best squad consisting of some of the most brilliant players in the world, from the defense up to the attack.

 

Since 2015, the Cityzens have become primary Premier League title challengers with the appointment of Spanish tactician Pep Guardiola as manager.

 

Man City began competing with the Premier League big boys following the takeover by City Football Group that brought many changes.

10. Fred Tilson – 132 Goals

 

Samuel Frederick Tilson played for Manchester City and was the club’s 10th all-time top scorer with 132 goals. The Englishman began his professional career at the club.

 

He joined Manchester City in 1928 and helped the team to First Division promotion. He was more of a goal contributor throughout his stay at the club.

 

His first and second seasons were epic as he became the club’s third all-time top scorer at the time. Tilson also helped Man City to the 1933 FA Cup final Manchester City, where the Cityzens failed to win the trophy following the defeat to Everton.

 

Fred Tilson was inducted into the Manchester City Hall of Fame.

 

9. Billie Gillespie – 132 Goals

 

William Jardine Gillespie played as a center-forward for Manchester City between 1897 and 1905.

 

The Scottish professional footballer was among the club’s early successful squad that won significant domestic trophies, including the FA Cup and the Old First Division.

 

He joined the Cityzens, then in the English Old Second Division. He became the club’s top scorer in two consecutive seasons and eventually helped them gain promotion to the First Division for the 1899–1900 season.

 

Yet again, his prolific form helped the Cityzens continued in the English First Division as he scored eight goals.

 

At Manchester City, the Scotsman won one FA Cup and two Football League Second Division honours.

 

8. Tommy Browell – 139 Goals

 

Thomas Browell played as a forward for Manchester City between 1913 and 1926. He is the eighth-highest Manchester City goalscorer with 139 goals for the Cityzens.

 

Although not with the Cityzens, the English footballer helped Blackpool to First Division promotion following the Second Division Championship win in the 1929–30 football season.

 

As one of the most influential players, Thomas Browell was an integral member of the 1925–26 season squad that qualified for the FA Cup final.

 

Throughout his career with the Cityzens, he scored some of the most impressive goals in all competitions he was featured. In total, Thomas Browell made 247 appearances for Manchester City, scoring 139 goals.

 

He also played for other notable English football clubs like Everton FC, Hull City, and Blackpool FC.

 

7. Francis Lee – 148 Goals

 

Francis Henry Lee played for Manchester City between 1967 and 1974. Francis Lee is Man City’s seventh all-time top scorer, scoring 148 goals.

 

Lee is one of the most successful players in the early years of Manchester City.

 

In 1967, Manchester City paid a club-record fee of £60,000 to sign Lee from Bolton Wanderers. He began his career on fine note, scoring 16 league goals in matches, leading the team’s First Division title win.

 

In his second season, he also helped the club win the 1969 FA Cup. Lee helped Manchester City overcome Polish football club Górnik Zabrze to their first-ever European Cup Winners’ Cup in the 1969–70 season.

 

He won one Football League First Division, one FA Cup, one League Cup, two FA Charity Shield, and one UEFA Cup Winners’ Cup.

 

6. Billy Meredith – 152 Goals

 

William Henry Meredith made a name for himself during the early years of English football. He was dubbed the ‘superstars of football” due to his performances.

 

The Welshman played for Manchester City and Manchester United. Most notably, Manchester City, he played over 339 league matches, scoring 129 times.

 

During his first season with the Cityzens, he emerged as the league’s top scorer. He was a star player throughout his stay at the club.

 

He won one FA Cup and one Second Division with Manchester City. He is one of the best players in the club’s early years in the Old Second Division.

 

5. Joe Hayes – 152 Goals

 

Joe Hayes played as a forward for Manchester City between 1953 and 1965. He spent most of his career at Man City and was the star player during the 1956 FA Cup final win.

 

He joined the club in 1953 following a successful trial. However, he started his career on a bright note but was forced to remain on the sidelines due to injury in some cases.

 

That been said, Hayes was a regular goal scorer for Manchester City in all competitions. In total, he scored 152 goals in 363 appearances for Manchester City.

 

He also won the 1956 FA Cup with the club and was the scorer of the opening goal in the game.

 

4. Colin Bell – 153 Goals

 

Colin Bell played as a forward for Manchester City and was known for his thirteen-year spell. Colin Bell is one of Manchester City’s finest ever players.

 

He began his professional career at Bury and scored 25 goals in 82 appearances for the club. This performance led to Man City’s interest in securing his services.

 

In 1966, Manchester City announced the signing of the former Bury FC forward, who was the leading player in the team. During his first season, Man City secured promotion for the First Division.

 

Returning to the English top-flight was another moment for the Manchester City-based club who had to struggle in the second tier. Bell became the club’s top scorer with fourteen league goals in all competitions in his second season.

 

He scored a hat-trick in a 3–1 victory against Stoke City the same season to wrap up an impressive campaign.

 

In the third season, Bell helped Man City to win their second league title. He scored another impressive fourteen league goals to help the Cityzens claim the First Division Championship.

 

During the 1970 European Cup Winners’ Cup Final, Bell helped Man City claim the title, beating Polish side Górnik Zabrze 2-1 through goals from Young and Francis Lee.

 

He continued to lead the club in the league and other competitions with his impressive eye for goal. He was hitting double figures in most seasons.

 

In total, Colin Bell scored 153 goals in all competitions for Manchester City. When it comes to trophies, the Englishman won two Football League Cups, two FA Charity Shields, one First Division, one Second Division, one FA Cup, and one European Cup Winners’ Cup.

 

3. Tommy Johnson – 166 Goals

 

Tommy Johnson played either as center-forward or an inside forward for Manchester City between 1919 and 1930.

 

He signed his first professional contract with Manchester City in 1919. He was recognized after scoring a hat-trick against Port Vale two weeks after his debut game against Blackburn Rovers on 22 February 1919.

 

Although the first few months weren’t the best, he gradually earned the first team. He much less played for the Reserves and the First team.

 

Tommy Johnson finally made the cut when he was introduced during the Manchester Derby and scored in the process. He later became a regular first-team player and finished top scorer.

 

2. Eric Brook – 177 Goals

 

Eric Fred Brook played in the outside left position for Manchester City from 1928 to 1939. Brook is regarded as one of Manchester City’s and England’s most excellent players, well known for his shots and perfect penalty-taking abilities.

 

He was sought after by Man City’s top hierarchy, who wanted his service amid his excellent performance at Barnsley, where he was a regular and a difference-maker.

 

Brook joined Manchester City in 1928. During the first full season, he scored fourteen goals. He gradually became one of the best players in the team that saw a sharp rise in the team’s overall performance.

 

During the 1933 FA Cup Final against Everton, Brook featured for the Cityzens in the three-nil bashing of the Merseyside-based club to win the title.

 

He won one FA Cup, one First Division title, and one FA Community Shield.

 

1. Sergio Agüero – 260

 

Sergio Agüero is Manchester City’s all-time top scorer in all competitions. The Argentine forward has scored 260 goals, winning five Premier League titles, one FA Cup trophy, six EFL Cup, and the Community Shield.

 

Agüero moved to Manchester City from La Liga side Atlético Madrid where he was already the mainstay of the team, winning the Europa League and UEFA Super Cup.

 

The Argentine’s arrived Manchester City for a record transfer in the region of £35 million. Although he was right in time for the Premier League preseason, Agüero was only available for the new season.

 

He debuted in a thumping win over Swansea City in the Premier League.

Agüero finished his first season with Manchester City on a high note, contributing to the club’s league title, which was the first in the English top-flight since 1968.

 

The Argentine’s second season was marred by injuries that prevented him from playing regularly for the first team. However, Agüero had been returning to the first team on several occasions to score crucial goals.

 

In the end, the Cityzens finished the season as runners-up of the league. In Agüero’s third season in England, he brought the Premier League title to Manchester City.

 

He scored goals in the domestic scene and continental competitions like the Champions League.

 

Agüero’s fourth season was quite remarkable as he won the English Premier League Golden Boot after extending his contract for another five years.

 

He sent a message across the English top-flight after scoring all four goals against Tottenham Hotspur in the Premier League On 18 October. He also scored a hat-trick against giants Bayern Munich in the Champions League.

 

In the end, Agüero scored 26 league goals, winning the Premier League Golden for the 2014–15 season.
