The Portuguese forward began a new chapter with Melbourne Victory in the Australian Men’s top flight against Sydney FC. Nani made his debut for the Victory in the 2-3 victory in front of their cheering home fans.

Nani started the game against Sydney FC and was on the pitch for 72 minutes before 21-year-old Nishan Velupillay replaced him.

The victory was down 15 minutes after kickoff courtesy of Róbert Mak’s strike, which gave the visitors the lead. The home side fought back to draw level through Nicholas D’Agostino sixteen minutes later as the two sides went into the break on a stalemate.

Luís Nani found himself in a comfortable position and assisted Chris Ikonomidis, which led to Melbourne Victory’s second goal on the day. But again, James Donachie found the back of the net to give the home side a fighting chance after opening the scoring.

With barely seven minutes to the end of the game, Joshua Brillante gave Melbourne Victory their third and winning goal to claim the three points on the road.

Nani is expected to be part of Melbourne Victory’s main setup under the guidance of Tony Popovic.
