List of Copa Libertadores all time winners (most successful clubs)
Copa Libertadores is the most prestigious cup competition in the whole of the Americas be it North or South.
The competition contested between clubs in South America is the most glamourous club competition aside from the UEFA Champions, FIFA Club World Cup.
The competition consist of top teams like Independente, River Plate, Boca Juniors, Penarol and Estudiantes. Independente is the most successful club in the history of the Copa Libertadores with seven titles to their name.
Argentina and Brazil have the most representatives in the competition with six and seven teams respectively.
The club competition in the Argentina Primera Division performs better in the continental showpiece compared to Atletico River Plate and Boca Juniors.
Another most successful team outside the two Argentine teams is Penarol who competes in the Uruguayan national first division. Penarol have won a total of five Copa Libertadores titles.

1. Independente – 7
Independente is the most successful club in the history of the South American Copa Libertadores with over seven titles. The Argentine club won the competition in the course of four straight seasons.
1964, 1965, 1972, 1973, 1974, 1975, 1984.
2. Boca Juniors – 6
Boca Juniors remains one of the strongest football clubs in the competition even in modern times.
The club alongside River Plate were forced to play the second leg of the 2018 edition at the Santiago Bernabeau stadium (home of Real Madrid FC) in Spain due to intense rivalry which almost resulted into crisis caused by fans of the two clubs.

3.Club Atlético Peñarol – 5
Peñarol is the only club from Uruguay to win the competition a record five times followed by Atletico Nacional with three titles. They are the most successful Uruguayan football club in South America.

4. River Plate – 4
The Argentine club is the second most successful club in competition with four titles.
The recent being the disputed final against Boca Juniors which was eventually moved to the Santiago Bernabeau stadium in Spain.

5. Estudiantes – 4

6. Olimpia – 3
Club Olimpia is the most successful Paraguayan football club in South America with over three Libertadores titles. They are also the only club to have won the title.
