Least or fewer goals conceded in a Premier League season – Top 5 teams ranked in history
The Premier League, as it is known globally, is one of the toughest leagues and is one of the leagues where the most goals are scored. Meaning the strength of every team depends on their defence, which is the reason lots of teams spend heavily on defenders
But despite the competitiveness and the high goal ratio of the English top flight, some teams have been able to concede fewer goals throughout the season.
We’ve brought you the list of teams with the least goals conceded in a Premier League season.
5. Liverpool – 25 goals (2005/06)
Liverpool had an outstanding performance in the 2005/06 campaign, where its defence was the main backbone of the team. The Reds conceded just twenty-five goals.
Rafael Benitez, who was in charge of the team, had his goalkeeper (Pepe Reina) to thank, as he made some outstanding saves to keep the team.
Although Liverpool finished third at the end of the campaign with nine points adrift of champions Chelsea, it was a season to remember in the club’s history.
4. Chelsea – 22 goals (2005/06)
There’s a reason why Chelsea won the Premier League title in the 2005/06 campaign despite facing tough competition from Man United and Liverpool. The Blues had a rock-solid defence that conceded just twenty-two goals.
Chelsea was led by Portuguese manager Jose Mourinho, who took the club to win two consecutive Premier League titles. Although records have shown he was defensive in his tactics, he had a wonderful team throughout the campaign.

3. Manchester United – 22 goals (2007/08)
United, under Sir Alex Ferguson, was rock solid in almost every aspect. The team arguably had their best defensive record in Premier League history after conceding just twenty goals throughout the season to match Chelsea’s tally in 2006.
Sir Alex Ferguson had a formidable team, especially in the defense, which consisted of top players like Edwin van der Sar in goal, Patrice Evra, Vidic, Rio Ferdinand, and Wesley Michael Brown.
2. Arsenal – 17 goals (1998/99)
Prime Arsenal under Frenchman Arsène Wenger was arguably the leading team in England. The Gunners had a five-star performance and only conceded seventh goals throughout the campaign.
The 1998/99 season was a three-horse race between Man United, Arsenal, and Chelsea.
However, despite Arsenal’s decent defensive record, they fell narrow last to Manchester United, which won the league table with a point difference at the end of the season.
1. Chelsea – 15 goals (2004/05)
Chelsea is the only team that conceded the fewest goals in a premier League season at just 15 in the 2004/05 season. This was Jose Mourinho’s first season where he guided the club to their first Premier League title since the First Division era.
Mourinho, known for his defensive style, finished the season with the fewest number of goals ever, which has been unmatched ever since. His defence had names like Petr Čech, Gallas, John Terry, Ricardo de Carvalho, and Paulo Ferreira.
