Leandro Trossard attributes hat trick against Liverpool to De Zerbi – Telegraph
Brighton forward Leandro Trossard singlehandedly dominated Liverpool’s defense and forced them to concede three goals at Anfield.
The Belgian was outstanding against the Reds in one of the best outings in the English Premier League.
However, Trossard attributes his hat trick against Liverpool last weekend to the new Brighton Roberto De Zerbi, who took charge of the helms of affairs following the departure of Graham Potter to Chelsea.
According to the Telegraph, Trossard was told his job was to score as many goals as he could.
“He said that he really liked me as a player and wanted a chat when I came back from (the) internationals,” the Belgian explains, before adding: “He also said he wanted me to score more goals.”
How is Leandro Trossard this season
The Belgian has been outstanding since the start of the season, helping the Seagulls to be fourth on the Premier League table after eight rounds, although the club has played a game less than the top three teams on the table.
After seven games, Trossard has scored five Premier League goals with one assist in the bag.
If Brighton aims to remain in the Premier League top-four race, then the fitness and consistency of the Belgian would be crucial. And also, the club must ensure he stays with them until the end of the season.
Despite the departure of Graham Potter to Chelsea, the mood in Brighton has not changed. Instead, there’s a new feeling and style Roberto De Zerbi has brought.
In the interview with the Telegraph, Trossard admitted the perception regarding the appointment of De Zerbi at the club.
“When I was away with Belgium a lot of the guys were saying his style is really good. For example, Dries Mertens. He (De Zerbi, a former midfielder) played at Napoli and he told me we really would enjoy playing under him as he really loves to attack, create chances and that he had a similar way of playing to Graham and was possibly even more attacking. So, then I was even more curious to see what will happen.”
Brighton will take on Tottenham Hotspur at Falmer Stadium on Saturday.
