La liga releases anti-racism plan for Real Madrid away matches as Vinicius Junior reportedly assaulted
Real Madrid players have continued to come under attack with racial remarks, especially during the club’s away matches. The most recent was the 2-0 win on the road against Osasuna which forced Laliga to release an anti-racism plan to prevent future occurrences.
The objective of the new plan was to strictly punish fans of clubs who racially abuse players from the opposing team. According to AS, Vinicius Junior was racially abused again. The Brazilian was also involved in a bust-up with Moi Gomez.
Vinicius Junior had been insulted on previous occasions, including the game at Atletico Madrid, Real Valladolid, Mallorca, and El Sadar against Osasuna.
Although it has been claimed that the players’ style of celebration was behind the insult from fans, a decision must be reached to avoid scenes like this reoccurring in the Spanish top flight.
The Brazilian was on target in the game but was denied by the Video Assistant Referee due to an offside call.
When did the racial remarks occur?
During the minute of silence observed by the two clubs, a fan in the stands was heard shouting hateful remarks, according to Guillermo Rai of The Athletic via AS.
What is the new Laliga plan to punish racist offenders?
The statement released by LaLiga president Javier Tebas will punish offenders across the division. Letters had already been sent across the twenty participating clubs to combat the issue. The plan will solely focus on Real Madrid away matches as it seeks to punish fans who target players, especially Vinicius Junior.
